AbbVie is investing heavily in a new research enterprise in Cambridge, Boston - the Foundational Neuroscience Center (FNC). The FNC will investigate the fundamental biological mechanisms underpinning neurodegenerative disease, especially Alzheimer's disease.

AbbVie is seeking an innovative, motivated Scientist with prior experience working in neurodegeneration disease models to join the In Vivo Pharmacology team at the FNC. This individual will be responsible for designing, executing and interpreting studies in animal models to support discovery and preclinical Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and utilize in vivo models to support Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease projects

  • Collaborate with key internal and external scientists to drive improved understanding of disease pathophysiology and target biology

Position will be hired based on level of experience.

  • BS in Neuroscience or related field with 5-7+ years of academic or industry research experience; MS with 2-5+ years of experience

  • Expert in vivo skills including rodent handling, dosing (iv, ip, po, etc) and tissue/fluid harvest

  • Prior experience doing surgery required; experience doing stereotaxic surgery highly preferred

  • Expertise in animal models of neurodegenerative disease-related models highly preferred

  • Experience with ex vivo assay techniques ( e.g. ELISAs, WB, qPCR) and/or histology/immunohistochemistry preferred

  • Outstanding organizational and critical thinking skills required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to work across functions and across sites, and within academic and biotech collaborations

The successful candidate will work with our multidisciplinary team in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This is an ideal position for an individual with a strong background in preclinical rodent in vivo experiments, who thrives in a team-oriented, fast-paced, and cross-disciplinary start-up biotech environment. Responsibilities: * The individual will be responsible for experimental design, execution and data analysis for research studies supporting therapeutic programs and platform discovery research * Design and execute rodent in vivo experiments including experiments in animal models of neurodegenerative disease * Performing test article dosing via various administration routes, brain and tissue collection, and downstream analysis (eg RT-qPCR, western blot and ELISA). * Perform behavioral assessments * Performing data analyses and delivering data presentation to teams * Ensuring maintenance of industry-quality records and proper documentation * Embedded in drug discovery teams in matrixed biotech company Requirements: * A PhD degree with 0-2 years of industry experience or a Master's degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience or equivalent qualifications * A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with performing test article administration in rodent (mouse and rat) * Experience in neuroscience * Technical proficiency with a wide variety of rodent in vivo pharmacology skills (IV, IP, IM dosing) * The successful candidate will have significant prior experience in drug discovery, preferably in neurodegenerative diseases. * Experience conducting ex vivo tissue analysis (i.e. ELISA, western blot, RT-qPCR.) * Experience in sensory systems (disease) or neuro-muscular diseases a plus * Outstanding problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task * Self-motivated, able to work independently, highly organized with strong attention to detail * Competency with database, spreadsheet and presentation applications (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, Data entry systems, or similar) Voyager Therapeutics Cambridge MA
