The Scientist II will rovide technical service, applied R&D and product technical support to Coatings Additives distributors, Sales force and customers. Joint technical visits with sales and distributors to local customers in the US and Canada and periodic training visits to Essen. Plan and execute proposed experimental lab work for customer projects and Innovation project lab testing. Responsible to maintain raw material's inventory list, according to project requirements and aligned with ESHQ.
Communication with global CAD laboratories, as well as regional Americas labs on projects and other technical matters. Goal of testing is technical support, complaint resolution or demonstrating new, novel use in each application of coatings.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Support Global Industry and Market Teams by independently performing a broad range of activities - experiments, tests and laboratory processes and procedures - requiring specialized knowledge of formulating techniques, spray application, and raw material product information to test products in coating formulations supplied by customers.
Develop, recommends and implements new/revised tests to promote old and new products and development of new market areas.
Provide technical support to customers by customer visits, telephone and emails. This includes technical visits with field sales force to present products and technology.
Prepares presentations, technical reports, summaries and analysis of his/her work.
Attend and deliver papers at industry trade shows and conferences.
May supervise or train other laboratory personnel in the performance of specialized work. May oversee the activities of other employees assigned to support a specific project (lower-level scientists, technicians, interns).
Maintains team raw materials list. Writes Safe Work Practices, Supports Design Hazard Reviews and Management of Changes as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
M.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related science with 1-2 years of coatings formulating experience strongly preferred; or B.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related science with 3+ years of formulating experience.
Position requires ability to formulate, make and spray apply coatings samples in the lab.
Ability to set goals to work independently in conducting experiments, organizing data and analysis of the results.
Good problem-solving skills.
Computer proficiency required with emphasis on Excel spreadsheet capabilities.
Possesses effective and convincing verbal and technical writing skills in English language. Proficiency in German language a plus.
Ability to travel domestic and internal and make technical presentations to customers as needed to proactively support technical sales.
