This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and creative individual to work in a key drug discovery group in our research organization and play a central role in applying Sarepta's DMD expertise to gene therapy drug development. The successful candidate will participate in target discovery and validation efforts, characterization of mechanism of action of gene therapy through preclinical proof of concept. This position reports to the Executive Director, Head of Gene Therapy Research.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as subject matter expert on gene therapy pre-clinical development for existing and new programs.

  • Conducts laboratory activities in Sarepta in-house laboratory, interacts with research, translational biology and bioanalytical groups.

  • Organizes and conducts experiments to support analysis of in vivo and in vitro studies using a variety of assay formats such as nucleic acid and protein isolation, ddPCR, qPCR, western blot and immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry.

  • Independent contributor to team activities from assay development, understanding disease biology, and mechanism of action studies.

  • Leads the evaluation and implementation of new technologies and laboratory techniques to improve quality and robustness of sample analysis.

  • Performs general laboratory maintenance and helps to maintain a clean and safe working environment while ensuring compliance with GLP/GCP guidelines.

  • Create and maintain clear and concise lab records and documentation

  • Author development reports, study protocols, and pre-validation reports

  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described

Education and Skills Requirements:

  • Ph,D. in Biology or related field with 1-3 years relevant lab experience

  • A strong understanding of molecular biology across a wide range of technologies with specific skillset in animal physiology and animal outcome measures (physiology, qPCR, ddPCR, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, cloning).

  • Experience with pre-clinical animal models is preferred including animal handling, dosing (IP, PO, IV, ICM, IT) and tissue dissection.

  • Ability to plan out and carry out experiments independently with strict adherence to laboratory methods and SOPs.

  • Experience in gene therapy or related field is useful.

  • Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Highly organized and able to work with great precision and attention to detail.

  • Experience with statistical and computer productivity software.

  • Operate as part of a team; assisting fellow lab associates in providing a functional, safe working environment while maximizing laboratory efficiency

Conduct qualification visits (QV), site initiation visits (SIV), monitoring visits (MV) and termination visits (TV) at assigned clinical sites and generate visit/contact reports. * Build relationships. Oversee integrity of the study and utilize problem-solving skills to promote rapport with the site and staff. * Protect patients. Review the performance of the trial at designated sites, ensure the rights and well-being of human subjects are safeguarded and are in accordance with protocol. * Drive productivity. Qualifications More about you On your first day we'll expect you to have: * Site Management or equivalent experience in clinical research, with understanding of clinical trials methodology and terminology. * Ability to perform all clinical monitoring activities independently. * Bachelor's or equivalent degree in biological science, pharmacy or other health related discipline. * Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills within a matrixed team. * Experience working in a self-driven capacity, with a sense of urgency and limited oversight. * A client-focused approach to work and flexible attitude with respect to assignments/new learning. * The ability to manage multiple tasks, evaluate a variety of unpredictable scenarios and achieve project timelines while being able to apply your understanding of study protocol(s). * An honest and ethical work approach to promote the development of life changing treatments for patients. * Strong computer skills, including but not limited to the knowledge of a Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS), Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) and MS-Office products such as Excel and Word.
