We are seeking a Fermentation Scientist to join our team. Candidates should have a strong background and direct experience in precision fermentation and have a demonstrated track record of successful fermentation process development and improvement in a fast paced, team-oriented research operations setting. Ideal candidates will also have specialized skills and experience in analytical operations and developing analytical methods for assessing key parameters of microbial fermentations. Experience with early downstream processing (DSP) development is a plus.
As part of the Recombia team, you will be expected to interact frequently with leadership and work collaboratively with other scientists to design and execute fermentation experiments in support of our R&D deliverables. You will contribute to the planning and execution of current and future projects.

Ideal candidates will have:
A PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Industrial Microbiology, Biology, or related fields, or M.Sc. with 10 years of relevant industry experience
Strong background in development of new bioprocesses and demonstrated skills in design and execution of fermentation experiments
Specific experience in developing and optimizing microbial fermentation processes to produce small molecules and proteins
Analytical chemistry skills for qualifying and quantifying fermentation products and key fermentation parameters, including product titers, by HPLC and LC/MS
Familiarity with common lab-scale bioreactor manufacturers (Eppendorf, Sartorius, etc.) and associated software
Ability to work in cross-functional project teams that are focused on the commercialization of a given product that includes the development and technology transfer of processes from laboratory scale to pilot and manufacturing scale
Expertise in statistical analysis, Design-of-Experiment practices, data analysis, and related software (e.g. JMP)
Strong communication, organization, and strategic planning skills, excellent record keeping, and history of maintaining safe work environment practices
Additional qualifications for an ideal candidate:
Experience with engineering microbes to produce natural products
Programming and data analysis skills (Python, R, etc)
Familiarity with Benchling environment and their Developer APIs
Ability to travel internationally (France) and throughout the US at least four weeks per year
