  • Execute ad hoc cloning projects using Gateway and/or restriction-based cloning and routine sequence verification for large clone arrays

  • In charge of supporting operation with transiently transfected crude protein extract

  • Maintain mammalian cell lines (HEK293, CHO) following established SOPs

  • Run Biochemical assays using a variety of liquid handlers and robotics in R&D and production settings

  • Being conscientious and active learner

  • Good record keeping in lab notebook following SOP

  • Demonstrates and promotes the company vision

  • Regular attendance and punctuality

  • Applies GMP/GLP in all areas of responsibility, as appropriate

  • Conducts all activities in a safe and efficient manner

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Owns the accountability and responsibility of delivering to client needs and timeliness

  • Provides cross-functional support to other departments as required

  • Adjusts work hours as needed to meet client deadlines

  • Adheres to site employee health and safety (EHS) requirements

The Ideal Candidate would possess:

  • Experience with data management, including databases and Sequencher DNA sequence analysis software

  • Skills in mammalian and bacterial cell culture

  • Skills with data management and analysis software (i.e. Excel/GraphPad Prism or similar). Ability to independently execute standard cloning and molecular biology projects, including detailed DNA sequence QC using commercial software

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills

  • Skills in assay troubleshooting

Basic Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. in biological or physical sciences and at least 1 year of relevant experience.

  • Experience working in a cell culture lab maintaining mammalian cell lines

  • Expertise executing routine molecular biology projects, including cloning and DNA sequence analysis

  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship

Position is full-time, Monday

  • Friday 8:00am

The position of Scientist I is within our Toxicology business Unit located in San Diego, California. This role will support our Manager, Research & Development and is responsible for developing and executing research implementing strategies and tactics formulated to develop Drugs of Abuse (DOA) assay. This will be a key role in Product Development within the R&D Discovery team. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Develop new conjugation methods using colloidal gold, or other new detection materials with antibody, antigen, proteins, and chemicals with minimal supervision * Modify current/existing conjugation methods to improve the product performance and to support the production of the existing or new products * Design experiments based on deliverables, plan activities, and conduct complex experimentation including data collection, summary and thorough analysis, in support of department research projects and guidelines * Perform analytical test methods on finished products based on CLSI & FDA guidelines * Provide recommendations/observations to scientific staff/management on projects/tasks or issues * Innovate research methods and product formulation to resolve problems and accomplish company objectives * Write and revise protocols and reports for research and/or product development projects * Operate complex laboratory equipment and perform routine maintenance and repair and interface with contracted repair technicians * Work involving urine, blood or other potentially infectious materials may be required BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: * A minimum of BS degree with 6-8 or more years of relevant professional experience * OR a MS degree with 2-5 or more years of relevant professional experience * Or a PhD degree with 1-3 or more years of relevant professional experience * Relevant professional experience will be in Chemical Science or a related discipline with substantial experience in lateral flow product development, conjugation, and with skills and knowledge in the field of specialty described above PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Ability to communicate and work with external and internal Abbott Rapid Diagnostic development partners, resource planning and management of time across multiple projects * Ability to functionally direct and train junior research staff * Ability to use statistical method or software such as JMP * Knowledgeable of federal and other regulations.
