Cytokinetics, Incorporated South San Francisco , CA 94080

Posted 2 weeks ago

Cytokinetics is a late-stage, specialty cardiovascular biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing first-in-class muscle activators and next-in-class muscle inhibitors as potential treatments for debilitating diseases in which cardiac muscle performance is compromised. As a leader in muscle biology and the mechanics of muscle performance, the company is developing small molecule drug candidates specifically engineered to impact myocardial muscle function and contractility.

We are seeking a talented individual to generate metabolomics, lipidomics and spatial-omics datasets from in vivo and in vitro studies in support of Cytokinetics' discovery and development programs. We are looking for a motivated and diligent individual who will help execute and optimize analytical assays to characterize biomarkers in cell and animal models of disease. Additionally, the individual will help establish mass spectrometry imaging-based assays. The individual will participate as a member of the Biology Technologies team and will collaborate with multi-disciplinary departments to support drug discovery efforts with the shared mission of improving the lives of patients.

Responsibilities

  • Support biomarker identification and characterization by executing established targeted multi-omics assays to elucidate the mechanisms and molecular physiology of the biological system

  • Generate high-quality data with high precision and reliability and perform rigorous data analysis to drive research projects to completion

  • Leverage our existing mass-spectrometry platforms in the development and reliable implementation of novel or published metabolomics and lipidomics assays based on project needs

  • Support the broader Biology Technologies team by establishing mass-spectrometry based -based enzymology assays for projects in screening and lead optimization

  • Analyze and interpret LC-MS/MS datasets and present results to stakeholders in a timely manner through written and verbal presentations

  • Learn and apply other multi-omics workflows such as spatial-omics using mass spectrometry imaging (MSI)

Qualifications

  • PhD in biomedical or chemical engineering, bioanalytical chemistry, molecular physiology, biophysics or related field with 2+ years of experience in metabolomics/ lipidomics in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology setting

  • Extensive hands-on experience using GC- and LC-mass spectrometers (e.g., Agilent Q-ToF, Sciex QTRAP 6500+, Bruker timsTOF Flex, etc.) for targeted and global biomarker analysis in a variety of matrices

  • Prior use of UHPLC systems for chromatographic separation of metabolites, lipids, and/or proteins

  • Knowledge of maintaining and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation such as UHPLC/nanoHPLC, LC-MS/MS, and LC-QTOF

  • Familiarity with mass spectrometry software packages such as Sciex OS, MultiQuant, SCiLS, or Metaboscape is preferred

  • Prior wet-lab experience in performing sample extractions enabling the isolation, enrichment, and purification of multiple analytes for metabolomics and lipidomics analysis

  • Familiarity with liquid handling devices and/or automated screening systems, as well as experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., MetaboAnalyst, GraphPad and Excel)

  • An ability to multitask, strong organizational and time management skills, a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and flexibility are required to support and prioritize multiple projects

  • Enthusiasm for working in a collaborative, team-based, multi-disciplinary environment, paired with strong verbal and written scientific and technical communication skills, is critical

  • Analytical thinking with excellent problem-solving skills and ability to quickly grasp new concepts

  • Detailed and expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts related to energy metabolism and cardiovascular diseases is preferred

  • Knowledge of MALDI based imaging workflows is a plus

  • Coding experience with ability to write scripts to automate data analysis is preferred

Actual salary at the time of hire may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant qualifications, skills, and experience, as well as the service line and location where this position may be filled.
