  • The successful candidate will perform DNA extractions, qPCR/ddPCR, and various other Impurity-based sample testing of recombinant protein therapeutics under cGMP.

  • The ideal candidate will make detailed observations, analyze data, interpret results, and exercise appropriate technical discretion in the execution of experiments.

  • The successful candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills, good time management, outstanding multi-tasking abilities, and the ability to work in a cGMP environment and fast-paced team-centered setting.

  • Other job duties include preparing solutions/buffers, maintaining lab stock supplies, ordering and receiving reagents, lab equipment maintenance, and communicating to team members.

  • B.S./M.S. degree with 2-5 years of experience with mammalian cell culture is required

  • Experience with qPCR/real-timePCR is required.

  • Work experience in a GMP industry environment is a plus.

  • Good documentation, pipetting, writing, and communication skills are required.

  • Should have some working experience of relevant assays and basic laboratory equipment.

  • Experience with Applied Biosystems 7500, QuantStudio 7 instruments, Excel, and plate readers is a plus.

AstraZeneca has an opportunity for a Associate Scientist I/II in the Physicochemical Characterization Group within the Analytical Sciences Department in Gaithersburg, MD Key Responsibilities: The successful candidate will carry out analytical testing and method development using Chromatography, Electrophoresis, and Mass Spectrometry techniques in support of early and late stage development of biopharmaceutical products, such as humanized monoclonal antibodies, and recombinant proteins. The candidate will make detailed experimental observations, review and analyze data, interpret experimental results, and summarize data for presentations and reports. The candidate will author SOPs, protocols, reports and other relevant documentation. Key Qualifications: The candidate must have chemistry or biochemistry laboratory experience. Industry internship experience is a plus. The candidate must have a background in protein chemistry and experience on at least one of the following analytical techniques: chromatography (SEC, IEC, RPLC), electrophoresis (cIEF, CE-SDS, SDS-PAGE) and/or mass spectrometry. Great teamwork and communication skills, both verbal and written, are critical. Good multi-tasking, time management and organizational skills are required. The ability to follow SOPs, policies, and regulations, and to perform routine lab equipment maintenance is required. Ability to work in a team environment, attention to detail and strong verbal and written communication skills are also necessary. Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent in Chemistry or Biochemistry Associate Scientist I: Bachelors Degree and a minimum of 5 years of related experience or Masters Degree and at least 2 years of relevant experience Laboratory experience is highly preferred. Associate Scientist II: Bachelors Degree and a minimum of 8 years of related experience or Masters Degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience Laboratory experience is highly preferred.
