What You Will Achieve

The Discovery Neuroinflammation Group in the Inflammation and Immunology Research Unit (I&I) is looking for a motivated, innovative and enthusiastic researcher to join our group in studying inflammatory pathways in neurodegenerative diseases with a focus on myeloid cell biology and cellular uptake/degradation pathways. This Scientist will work in a matrix structure within the department supporting both in vitro and in/ex vivo studies that investigate mechanisms for neuroinflammation and novel targets and assets for the Discovery Neuroinflammation Group. The ideal candidate will have a diverse biology and immunology background and have a history of success in developing assays, implementing new technologies and triaging problems in biological systems. The candidate will be a key contributor in delivering data and recommendations for decisions of proposed and active programs.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Plan and execute laboratory experiments to produce robust, decision-making data for the Discovery Neuroinflammation Group.

  • Develop relevant in vitro assays to evaluate disease phenotypes in neuroinflammation.

  • Investigate novel pathways involved in neurodegenerative diseases with a focus on lipid and immune cell influences.

  • Lead evaluations of new targets in neuroinflammation for portfolio entry.

  • Support in vitro, in/ex vivo studies as needed within Neuroinflammation Group with assay execution & analysis using multiparametric assays including flow cytometry, histology, high content imaging, and biochemical assays.

  • Run high-parameter tissue imaging to validate target expression and determine cell components and localization.

  • Collaborate with other Discovery and Preclinical groups in I&I as well as key individuals in relevant partner lines.

  • Prepare and present experimental results to project teams.

  • Publish and present at external meetings.

  • Maintain high quality experimental records within electronic laboratory notebook.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • BA/BS (5 years of experience), MS (2-4 years of experience) or, PhD (0-1 year of experience) in biology, immunology, or neuroscience with laboratory experience relevant to this position.

  • Must be scientifically self-motivated and capable of independently conceiving, conducting, and critically analyzing their own innovative research with minimal supervision.

  • Experience with human and murine neuronal cell culture and assay development

  • Expertise in Lipid loading and related pathway analysis

  • Expertise in core molecular biology skills (PCR, ELISA, WB/IP, Plate-based Assays, DNA/RNA Isolation)

  • Ability to conduct data analysis using Microsoft Excel, GraphPad Prism, FlowJo, or equivalent software.

  • Ability to complete experiments and present results in individual and group settings.

  • Ability to learn novel skills and flourish in a highly-matrixed organization as well as work well within multidisciplinary teams.

  • Ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve issues by using sound judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • Proven verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with in vitro gene editing approaches.

  • Experience with iPSC culture a plus.

  • Experience with high-parameter flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry & immunofluorescence.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $74,900.00 to $124,800.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of the base salary.
