Responsibilities

  • Perform PET/CT equipment calibrations and quality checks adhering to quality assurance guidelines to collect accurate data.• Design imaging protocols, operate and troubleshoot scanning equipment inside the ABSL-3 environment replacing parts if directed by remote engineers.• Interact with service engineers and schedule periodic maintenance.• Perform attachment of monitoring probes for respiratory gating, temperature, blood CO2 and oxygen concentration to animals and correct/replicable positioning of animals on the scanner bed.• Inject images probes as required by experiment, maintain radioactivity usage and disposal records; adherence to NIH radiation usage policies/procedures and safety guidelines.• Maintain files of images created by the PET/CT and transfer the images to a clearly maintained filing system for collaborators to access.• Interpret results using multiple commercial quantitative software to produce files of measurements of FDG activity or CT density.• Develop new methods to analyze PET/CT data as necessary to document experimental results.• Compile and maintain datasheets of PET/CT analysis using Excel for multiple lab groups.• Plan Necropsy lesion tracking for VRAs to follow during necropsies.• Create publication quality figures for multiple laboratories to visually summarize the data from their animal imaging experiments independently and on schedule.• Create publication quality figures and presentations of imaging data for multiple laboratories to visually summarize the data from their animal imaging experiments independently and on schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in a biological or medical field is required.• Minimum of two or more years of related experience is required.• Knowledge and prior experience operating medical imaging equipment.• Knowledge of human and/or mammalian anatomy, particularly in the chest.• Highly proficient computer skills and excellent ability to learn new computer skills independently.• Effective and clear communication skills and the ability to work in a high stress environment.• Willingness to work with radioactive chemicals.• Willing to working in an ABSL-3 suite with some NHP, rabbit and mouse animal contact.• Willing to work flexible hours, occasional weekend work possible.• Ability to work in a team in ABSL-3 laboratory environments following SOPs.• Ability to work independently on computers, software, and with imaging data to organize and create large datasets for analysis and conduct the analysis on schedule.• Must be able to pass extensive background check and Public Trust 5 clearance.• If certified in imaging modalities, maintain certifications.
