This position reports to the Analytical Science director. The scope of this job includes laboratory instrument maintenance, 3rd party contract laboratory management, and analytical analysis of process and finished food product samples. Equipment utilized includes but is not limited to: pH meter, Protein combustion, Soxhlet extraction, titration, HPLC, GC, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Rheometry, Scanning Electron Microscope, etc. Data entry may be made into LIMS and/or electronic notebook. Data sharing is also conducted by hard copy, phone, or Excel spreadsheets. This position requires flexibility to cover vacations and other absences.
Lab coordinate and plan meetings along with provide support to lab organization and supplies
Experience with LIMS with computer science background preferred
Maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment along with annual revision of methods and work instructions. Order supplies and perform inventory management.
Manage technical document filing process and organize SharePoint site
Ensures laboratory activities meet or exceed technical, safety and efficiency goals.
Prepare samples and conduct routine analytical analysis according to established procedures.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with technical training in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, food science, or engineering sciences or associates degree (or equivalent) with 2 years' experience ideal. Additional preferred qualifications include:
Completed apprenticeship as a chemical food laboratory technician or related occupational field.
Ability and willingness to follow established Quality Manual, Test Methods, and SOPs
Knowledge in analytical laboratory (e.g. =protein analysis according to Kjeldahl and Dumas, fiber analysis, fat according to Soxhlet, HPLC, GC, etc.)
Good understanding of laboratory tests and laboratory equipment
Ability to multi-task and prioritize with attention to detail, quality, and accuracy
Independent and self-reliant work, good troubleshooting skills, ability to work well with others, excellent communication and computer skills, a customer focus with understanding of customer needs,
Ability to work in fast-paced environment and adapt to changing procedures
