The Translational Medicine department at Genentech is seeking a highly talented, driven and motivated lab-based Scientist to support our research and clinical development activities in multiple sclerosis. Our department is responsible for defining and executing biomarker strategies in our clinical trials, and using human clinical translational research to generate novel target and biomarker approaches in MS. Through our clinical trials, as well as our translational research efforts, our group identifies new targets and implements biomarkers to evaluate disease heterogeneity, target engagement, mechanism of action, and disease modification.
The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and collaboratively supporting clinical development and translational research, providing scientific and technical expertise and generating high quality data through rigorous scientific approaches. Excellent communication skills will facilitate fruitful and open collaborations with other functions including Research, Bioanalytical Assay Science, Diagnostics, Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical, Biostatistics and Computational Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to present their work to the department, cross-functional teams, internal review committees and external conferences.
The Opportunity:
As an integral member of this dynamic team, you will be:
Discovering and evaluate candidate targets or biomarkers
Developing and implementing systems to identify and validate targets; preclinical models and clinical trials
Evaluating new technologies
Analyzing large data sets using available analysis tools
Documenting experiments and studies in lab notebook
Communicating findings to their manager and key stakeholders
Coordinating interdepartmental and/or external collaborations
Who You Are:
Strong candidates for this position will meet most of the following requirements:
BS, MS, and/or Ph.D. in immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related field.
At least 3 years of relevant experience in immunology and/or neuroscience disease research
Familiarity with a broad spectrum of laboratory techniques, such as cell culture, ELISA, qPCR, cytokine profiling, LC/MS, flow cytometry, NGS, iPSC/organoid or other complex in vitro culture systems, and/or human whole blood assays
Experience with bioinformatics analysis of laboratory-generated data, including high-dimensional data such as genome sequencing, scRNA-seq, TCR-seq, CITE-seq or spatial transcriptomics, is desired
Able to independently design, execute and interpret experiments in a lab-based setting
Excellent written and oral communication skills, as evidenced by publication or internal/external presentations and a seminar during candidacy
Excellent time management skills
Willing to work in a collaborative environment and open to global business hours

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California is $100,000- $185,600. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
