Job Description: Summary
A field based Scientist responsible for managing the scientific solutions for BD FACSymphony A3/A5 customers, specializing in Clinical Research, Research, biotech or Pharma markets; functions as a subject matter expert for High parameter flow cytometry solutions ; taking a lead role in system validation activities throughout all phases of product development process, installation and training activities, multi-color panel design, providing new technology lectures keeping the community current on BD's evolving HP solution. Lead round-table HP discussions with KOL laboratories and staff; providing voice of the customer expertise to marketing, business development and product design teams; organize and oversee the FSE installations of all Symphony systems including upgrades assuring completion to the HP teams standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for managing the scientific needs of the HP customer
Is highly engaged in pre-sales scientific conversations to address customer needs and questions
Participates in the development of validation protocols
Supports the generation of HP data and other forms of collateral, assuring subject matter is scientifically meaningful
Works closely with marketing assuring the Symphony Users Group is active and information is informative and relevant to the group
This is a field based position that will focus on pre and post sales to support the business deliverables of the HP team.
Assessment will be measured both on an individual and team success metric
Works closely with FlowJo to design HP tools that will assist in the research of our HP customers and strengthen the HP offering commercially
Works closely with the local instrument and reagent reps to assure our solutions offering is technically correct and is applicable to the research needs of the account
Provides voice of the customer information source for Marketing, Product Development, Business Development and other departments
Participates as a member of product strategy teams as assigned
Collaborates with appropriate departments to develop technical presentations, applications notes and other communication materials
Acts as a technical resource for internal associates and works closely with the Application Program in San Jose and San Diego
Ensures technical knowledge transfer between all customer facing teams
Provides technical support at tradeshows, user's meetings, workshops, and other special Cell Analysis venues as appropriate
Keeps abreast of the U.S. and non-U.S. regulations affecting own area of job function as well as customer' specific regulatory requirements
Promotes a safe work environment
May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment
Participates in Environmental Health and Safety programs. Addresses corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified
Notifies supervisor of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices
Ensures safe laboratory work environment
Perform other related duties and assignments as required
Maintains and interfaces continually with the VP of Biological Sciences/Market Development, SORP technical teams and US Marketing.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of a BS in Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Medical Technology, or a science related to BD Biosciences products, plus 4-6 years of flow cytometry experience , OR a minimum of 8-10 years of flow cytometry experience is required.
A PhD in a biological science is preferred.
A working knowledge of current BD Biosciences products is required.
Must be an expert in multicolor flow applications, have a strong working knowledge of all BDB Cell Analysis systems (Instruments, software, reagents) and understand major competitors' platforms; must stay scientifically relevant and engaged in fast moving fields in which our business participates and deeply understand BDB customer needs
Must be able to positively and effectively interact in a multi-layered and complex work environment, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work with others in team environment.
Must be able to communicate coherently and effectively. Strong influence without authority skills
Must be able to speak scientifically, while understanding the messaging is a business driver.
Must be able to provide lectures and drive roundtable discussions with KOLs.
Must possess and demonstrate the ability to apply creative problem solving skills to novel and sometimes complex flow cytometry applications.
Must possess the ability to think strategically and design technical solutions for complex customer needs

Should have a strong working knowledge of all BD Biosciences applications, instruments, and reagents and software.
Should possess a working knowledge of product development regulatory and certification requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license and meet BD's auto safety standards
Travel is estimated to be at least 60%.
