An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic analytical scientist to lead a team of NMR scientists within the Mass Spec and Characterization Team in Structure and Function Characterization, Analytical Development, MDS.

The successful candidate will lead a team that utilizes state-of-the-art solution NMR and solid-state NMR instrumentation to generate critical data and provide key information enabling projects progression at all stages of pharmaceutical development, from Discovery through Development to marketing file, across small and large molecule portfolios. Reporting to the Team Director of Mass Spec and Characterization, the Team Leader will also be accountable for the development of NMR sciences for product development, whilst developing and promoting excellence in talent and culture within the team.

Job Details:

  • As a member of the Mass Spec and Characterization Leadership Team, provides leadership and direction to a team of NMR scientists to further the course of drug product development and enable key decisions.

  • Leads the team's efforts on product characterization for discovery chemistry, process development and manufacturing support, and contributions to regulatory submissions.

  • Leads the team's efforts in the evaluation of new capabilities and technologies.

  • Acts as a scientific expert in discussions on science/project progression within GSK and contributes to regulatory dossiers and author/review expert reports.

  • Continuously identify ways to simplify and improve ways of working.

  • Creates an environment that stimulates, develops, and promotes the scientific and career development of others, including cross-training between modalities.

  • Providing leadership through effective feedback, coaching, mentoring, and training to influence cultural change to deliver the strategic priorities.

  • Identifies any technical or resource issues and propose/discuss solutions and strategies.

  • Leading/supporting the interactions among different NMR teams within GSK to share scientific and project knowledge and harmonize ways of working in developing overall NMR strategies for process development and product characterization.

  • Is accountable for safety and quality standards within the team.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. with ≥ 5 years or a Master's degree with ≥ 10 years of experience in NMR focused on the structural elucidation of small and/or large molecules in support of Drug Product Development.

  • Two or more years of experience managing a team of individual contributors or leading a scientific matrix team.

  • Experience with product characterization requirements and practices during different stages of drug product development using NMR.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of in-depth understanding of NMR spectroscopy and structure elucidation; demonstrated ability to apply 1D, 2D and heteronuclear NMR techniques specifically to the structural elucidation of small molecules (e.g., impurities/degradants/metabolites) and/or large molecules (e.g., oligonucleotides, proteins, monoclonal antibodies).

  • Knowledge and/or experience in other spectroscopic and spectrometric techniques as it relates to structural elucidation.

  • Sound understanding of pharmaceutical analytical strategies and product life cycle.

  • Knowledge and experience in authoring relevant regulatory documents and interaction with global regulatory agencies

  • Experience in leading or participating in multidisciplinary project teams and sub-teams, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience in analysis of protein and/or oligonucleotide therapeutics

  • Experience in solid state NMR
