The Scientific/Medical Director will be the key scientific lead on a particular account, providing editorial, scientific and strategic expertise to our client teams.

Working in partnership with Client Services, you will help to establish a cohesive and dynamic relationship between the accounts and editorial teams and the client, leading discussions in client meetings / teleconferences (as required) to ensure client satisfaction is maintained at all levels.

In this role, you will have management responsibility for a team of Associate Scientific Directors, Senior Medical Writers and Medical Writers (potentially based across several sites).

Requirements

To succeed you will have an advanced degree in the life sciences, (PhD, MD or PharmD required) and several years experience in a communications agency encompassing a broad range of medical communications deliverables and therapeutic areas. You will have well-developed scientific writing skills for different target audiences and proven leadership / line management skills of a medical writing team, possibly based across multiple locations

Through its services, advocacy and organizing, LALDEF advances the dignity, wellbeing and legal rights of all immigrants, with a focus on the Latin Americans in Mercer County. LALDEF’s pioneering education, activism and legal representation programs strengthen our communities. </p> <p>LALDEF’s approach is grounded in the conviction that the solutions to our collective problems come from the people who experience them first-hand. Our work reflects an intersectional approach that celebrates the variety of immigrant experience across race, gender, sexuality, language, immigration status, class, and indigeneity. LALDEF uses its platform to offer high-quality service, education, outreach and programs consistent with equity and justice, and to create meaningful, inclusive and lasting change for individuals and communities. </p> <p><strong>The Executive Director Opportunity</strong></p> <p>LALDEF seeks a culturally-competent, inclusive, and innovative candidate with pertinent program, management, and community experience to lead this 16-year old organization as Executive Director. The Executive Director will maintain high standards of program and budget management while facilitating inclusion, collaboration, and team building with an eye to sustainability and a vision for growth. This position oversees a $700,000 budget—produced through donor cultivation and stewardship, grants and varied outreach strategies—and 13 paid staff and many volunteers. The successful candidate will collaborate with LALDEF’s Board of Trustees, advisory committee, and a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external.</p> <p>The Executive Director will oversee the work of LALDEF’s legal services, Municipal ID Card program, our adult education classes, our FUTURO initiative for high school students, our advocacy and various special services programs, and all development and communication initiatives. This person also will play a key role in implementing LALDEF’s multi-year strategic plan, while working with our staff and volunteers to achieve LALDEF’s immediate and longer-term objectives.</p> <p>While no candidate will have every quality LALDEF seeks, the successful candidate will bring many of the professional qualifications and traits needed for the following:</p> <p><strong><i>Strategic Vision</i></strong></p> <ul> <li>Visualizes the organization’s future (structure, culture, leadership, programs, and partnerships) and pursues a strategy for its long-term, sustained success. </li> <li>Creates and manages policy, programs, procedures, funding and partnerships in keeping with the dynamic long-term goals, mission, and priorities of the organization. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Ensures that an equity lens, including a racial justice focus, is applied to organizational operations, including internal processes and infrastructure.</li> <li>Ensures a disciplined organizational focus; uses clear goals, tactics, milestones, and metrics for success, as well as the necessary systems to track and share critical programmatic, operational, and financial information across the organization.</li> </ul> <p><strong><i>Fundraising</i></strong></p> <ul> <li>Cultivates and stewards major donors to develop relationships.</li> <li>Responsible, with the assistance of our Development Associate, for all grant applications.</li> <li>Provides direction and serves as primary contact for foundations, government funders, and private donors. </li> <li>Works closely with the development staff and the Board to design and implement fundraising strategies.</li> </ul> <p><strong><i>External Communications</i></strong></p> <ul> <li>Serves as LALDEF’s primary spokesperson.</li> <li>Cultivates the organization’s external relationships with stakeholders and develops strategic partnerships with funders and peer institutions. </li> <li>Provides organization-wide executive leadership across the functions of government relations, advocacy, operations, finance, human resources, communications, and development.</li> <li>Promotes the culture of inclusion and equity within the team and across the entire organization. </li> <li>Improves and sustains superior organizational performance by developing and following through on priorities, seeking input where appropriate, delegating appropriately, and holding individuals accountable.</li> <li>Attracts, aligns, develops and retains the diverse talent pool needed to meet our organizational goals.</li> <li>Empowers staff by appealing to what motivates them and by personal example.</li> <li>Builds rapport and relates well to people of diverse backgrounds, exhibits warmth, listens attentively, and appreciates the needs and values of others.</li> <li>Facilitates positive change, provides information and seeks feedback that builds momentum, and increases stakeholder buy-in and organizational agility.</li> <li>Communicates genuine enthusiasm for the organization’s mission and inspires others to become involved.</li> <li>Demonstrates honesty, sincerity, humility and respect for individuals while modeling organizational values.
