As part of the pharmacology group, the role of a Scientific Associate is to independently perform in vivo and in vitro research to support the selection and development of therapeutic agents for tropical diseases.

Your responsibilities:

  • Development and validation of preclinical models of tropical diseases

  • Design and conduct experiments to assess pharmacodynamics and efficacy of therapeutic candidates in preclinical models.

  • Partner with project teams to determine testing strategy

  • Perform data collection, analysis, documentation, and interpretation

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Bachelors/Masters in pharmacology, biomedical science or related discipline.

  • Hands-on experience in establishing and working with in vivo and in vitro pharmacology models

  • Proficiency in experimental design, data interpretation and statistical analysis.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to function collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team setting

Desirable requirements:

  • Experience in parasitology, immunology and an understanding of pharmacodymamics and pharmacokinetics

  • Hands on molecular biology and flow cytometry experience

The Research Associate will assist in supporting a number of cell banking activities working with a diversity of microbes following standardized operating procedures (SOPs). Immediate Responsibilities Include * Learning and executing on cell banking workflows * Performing cell culture techniques * Quality control of cultured strains * Preparing reagents and materials to support daily operations. * Tech transfer of methods into the biorepository department. * System and infrastructure development alongside engineers and scientists * Entering and processing data using custom LIMS. * Working with diverse automation platforms and molecular biology instrumentation The Biorepository team plays a key role in managing large collection of engineered microbes and DNA constructs which is key to enabling our engineering pipeline and the protection of Zymergen's intellectual property. We need members of the Biorepository team to be thoughtful, meticulous, well-organized, energetic, collaborative, and fully engaged in the execution of the workflows. We are an evolving team so the ability to adapt to complex experimental schedules and evolving standardized operating procedures is key to success. Qualifications/Experience We favor candidates with a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, engineering, or other quantitative discipline with 2-6 years of experience. We will consider those with an associates degree in a relevant field with equivalent work experience such as lab assistants or manufacturing technicians. We prefer Research Associates with experience in some or all of the following areas: Protocols and Equipment * Familiarity with techniques in cell culture (bacteria, yeast, filamentous fungi), molecular biology, including PCR, restriction enzyme digests, plasmid purification, and DNA sequencing. * Experience working with LIMS, excel macros, basic coding and other enterprise software. * Experience carrying out tech transfer of scientific methods * Understanding of analytical equipment such as plate readers and automated DNA electrophoresis systems. * Direct experience using lab automation such as Tecan or Labcyte in a high-throughput environment is a plus. * Direct experience working in a biorepository is a plus. Operations and Data Analysis * Experience following established SOPs. * Capability to manage multiple ongoing multiday workflows that include preparing and processing reagents and materials.
