Job Responsibilities

  • Work in a R&D laboratory to develop new biomaterials for use in next generation medical device and drug delivery formulations.

  • Assist scientists and engineers to execute experimental studies under supervision. Major portion of overall responsibilities will be to synthesize, fabricate, and/or assemble polymeric materials. Various analytical procedures will be implemented as needed.

  • Actively works in a team environment. Frequent communication is essential and must interface with colleagues in cross functional departments

  • Is highly engaged in lab productivity and efficiency. Offers suggestions for improving general lab efficiency along with offering/implementing suggestion for improving syntheses, formulations, SOPs, and procedures in general. Maintains cleanliness and safety of the lab.

  • Writes, reviews and issues technical reports, technical memoranda and other documents for internal and external distribution. Keep detailed and organized notebooks and documentation.


  • B.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or other related fields.

  • 0 - 2 years laboratory experience, industrial experience is preferred.

  • Hands-on experience in one or more of the following technology areas is desirable: polymer synthesis, cross-linked/modified biomaterials, hydrogels, biodegradable polymers or vehicles, polymer fabrication, and chemical & physical analysis of polymers.

  • Must possess basic knowledge in chemistry, good laboratory skills, presentation skill, and ability to learn. Energetic and highly motivated.

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and to interact with several cross-functional groups.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to multi-task and handle several activities simultaneously.

  • Generating and implementing protocols and procedures is a must. Attention to detail and constant suggestions for improving experimental methods and lab efficiency in general.

  • Must be willing to learn new methods, operation of equipment and instrumentation, etc.

  • Must be computer literate and have a sound knowledge of MS Office software.

What Your New Manager Wants You To Know As an Assistant/Associate Scientific Director, BOTOX Spasticity & Movement Disorders you will be joining an energetic Medical team that supports one of the most recognized therapeutics in the World, that provides amazing outcomes for patients! In your role, you will be responsible for contributing to the development of medical strategy, executing projects, and representing BOTOX Therapeutic as a member of numerous, highly visible cross-functional teams. You will be an internal expert, expected to effectively communicate critical scientific and medical data and strategy to key internal and external stakeholders. You will be responsible for maintaining in-depth knowledge of Spasticity and Movement Disorders and related medical and regulatory guidelines, to ensure that field medical and other internal teams receive the best training possible, and that all such materials are medically accurate. Lastly, you will always put the patient and their safety first. The Assistant/Associate Scientific Director, Medical Affairs has a key role within the BOTOX Therapeutic & Migraine Therapeutic Area. Working under the leadership of the Scientific Director/Medical Director, this leader supports the development and execution of the medical strategy for BOTOX Spasticity and Movement Disorders. By providing scientific, strategic and operational input into core medical affairs activities including thought leader engagement plans and field provider interactions; generation and dissemination of clinical and scientific data; provider and payer educational initiatives and promotional material generation, this leader ensures tactical execution is relevant to the market- physicians, patients and payors for BOTOX Spasticity and Movement Disorders. The Assistant/Associate Scientific Director, Medical Affairs must conduct their work activities in compliance with all AbbVie internal requirements and with all applicable US regulatory requirements. AbbVie internal requirements include compliance with ethics, environmental health and safety, financial, human resources, and general business policies, requirements, and objectives. The employee is expected to be fully capable of performing roles encompassed in the preceding grade levels within the job family as required by the organization. Additional activities, special projects and assignments may be given, as required. As a result, the percentage of time spent across key duties and responsibilities will vary depending on project assignments, therapeutic area needs and the requirements within the Therapeutic Area. You Will * With oversight, contribute to the development of medical strategies for BOTOX Spasticity & Movement Disorders by leading annual medical tactical planning initiatives * Additionally, lead the execution of medical affairs projects, such as medical education, advisory boards, thought leader engagement activities and many others aligned with BOTOX Spasticity & Movement Disorders strategic plans * Be responsible for managing budget for assigned projects including consulting and vendor management * Lead planning and execution of US Medical Congress activities * Be responsible for Medical Review (MR) of materials and systems to be used for training and external presentations for BOTOX Spasticity & Movement Disorders * Support clinical and scientific data generation including alignment of the Investigator Initiated Study strategy as needed to support external communication * Provide subject matter expertise for field medical teams, health outcomes and commercial teams including competitive assessments and regular scientific literature reviews * Align medical education and scientific initiatives with BOTOX Spasticity & Movement Disorders Scientific Communication Platform * Be responsible for driving on-time delivery of publications (abstracts & manuscripts) * Contribute to the generation of Medical Information (MI) communication content and supports training on MI materials. * Travel to congresses and other medical conferences as required. #LI_PD1 Qualifications You Bring * Medical degree, PhD, PharmD and/or other higher scientific degree. Preferably 'board certified specialty qualification' or equivalent and pharmaceutical industry recognized qualification e.g. MSc * At least 5 years of biopharmaceutical/medical device industry experience, including substantial understanding of relevant therapeutic area required. * A good understanding of legal and regulatory guidelines (e.g. knowledge of OPDP promotional regulations, CDER/CBER regulations as they relate to drug approvals). * A good understanding of Good Clinical Practices, ICH guidelines, PhRMA code, FDA CFR, ISO, clinical research ethics, HIPAA and patient privacy laws, EU Directive and other applicable local regulations * A good understanding of Medical Affairs principles, study design and publications. * Knowledge of clinical trial methodology, regulatory requirements governing clinical trials and experience in the design of protocols preferred. * Ability to interact externally and internally to support global business strategy. * Ability to work effectively with different cross functional groups and have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
