What Youll Do

As a Middle School Science Teacher at Veritas Prep, youll plan and teach engaging science lessons through student-centered phenomena, ensuring that every student has the knowledge and skills to access grade-level standards and work. Youll help students gain the fundamental science and inquiry skills they need to prepare for higher level science classes in high school, college, and beyond. Youll partner with your colleagues and grade-level team to build a strong community, where students feel safe, seen, included, and able to reach their goals. Youll also receive consistent support from your coach, who will observe you weekly or biweekly and give you feedback that will help you continue to grow as an educator.

You will also:

  • Build knowledge in your content area and be prepared for every class with high-quality, effective lessons
  • Facilitate interactive, student-centered labs and investigations
  • Be an active participant in your content planning team with other Science Teachers in the building to improve the quality of instructional materials
  • Learn and use school-wide routines that help our school run smoothly and keep the focus on teaching and learning
  • Use data to make decisions and to support the growth of our students in the classroom and during daily tutoring
  • Teach students valuable social-emotional skills and embed this skill-building into your lessons and daily interactions
  • Build deep relationships and actively partner and communicate with parents and families
  • Engage in learning about racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and be a champion for anit-racist education
  • Work as a team with teachers, staff, and leaders to support students

Requirements

What Youll Need (Qualifications)

  • An unwavering belief that all students can achieve academically
  • A passion for continuous growth as an educator
  • A dedication to fighting racism in our educational institutions and in daily life and knowledge of the history of race and racism, as well as the systems of oppression our students face
  • One to two years of teaching experience (preferred)
  • Bachelors degree
  • Subject area expertise (preferred), i.e.,
    • passing score on the Communications and Literacy (Reading and Writing) MTEL
    • passing score on the General Science or Math/Science (Middle School) MTEL, or
    • eligibility for a MA teaching license in General Science or Middle School Math/Science
    • SEI endorsement within one year of employment
  • Current authorization to work in the United States a candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment

Veritas Prep has designed a school experience in grades 5-12 that defies the status quo and will change the trajectory of our scholars college and career pathway. At Veritas Prep every student sets a strong foundation in middle school and is guaranteed access to college classes and college prep support in our wall-to-wall early college high school, where they can earn up to 60 college credits (an associates degree) for free. VIEW JOBS 12/2/2022 12:00:00 AM 2023-03-02T00:00 <p><strong>What You’ll Do</strong></p><p>As a School Counselor at Veritas Prep you’ll partner with teachers, leaders, and staff to ensure all students have the support they need to achieve, grow, and thrive at school. You’ll provide counseling services, develop and facilitate small skill-building groups, create and monitor behavior plans, and provide a variety of other social, emotional, and behavioral supports to students with and without special education needs.
