Position Title Science Outreach Specialist, Part-time Department College of Science & Health FLSA Non-Exempt Job Summary

The College of Science and Health at Missouri Western State University invites applications for a Science Outreach Specialist beginning immediately.

This is a non-benefit eligible, 12-month, half-time position.

Missouri Western currently operates a mobile outreach science laboratory, the Griffon Lab. We seek a student-centered colleague committed to public science outreach education in northwest Missouri schools and communities. The successful candidate will engage communities, including P-12 students and their families, in science outreach efforts through the Griffon Lab, the University's mobile outreach laboratory. The Griffon Lab deploys to school districts and events across Northwest Missouri to enhance and advance the understanding of, and engagement in, science.

Essential Job Duties

• Teaching and management responsibilities for Griffon Lab excursions.

• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in a science or science education related field.

• Experience driving and operating a motor home under 40 ft in length.

• Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in science outreach

• The successful candidate should demonstrate disciplinary expertise and professional experience and evidence of creative and engaging science outreach.

• The successful candidate should demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with students, colleagues, and communities of interest.

Physical Demands Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additional Demands Hours of Work

• Arranged hours based on the Griffon Lab deployment schedule.

• May require work on nights and weekends.
