SUMMARY:

Lawrence Technological University's Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences seeks a full-time science outreach coordinator to provide in-person support for STEM outreach efforts and assistance with the College teaching and research laboratory facilities. The candidate will coordinate with the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences regarding allocating effort between the Marburger STEM Center and the College's teaching and research laboratories. The successful candidate is an outstanding communicator who will provide reliable, professional, and collegial service to the STEM Center and the College and is excited to interact professionally with high school teachers and prospective students, sharing a robust passion for STEM and LTU and supporting growing STEM-focused enrollment.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Work closely with the Directors of the Marburger STEM Center and the University STEM Education Program to grow and strengthen the outreach efforts of the University to increase the number of STEM-focused high school graduates enrolling as freshmen at LTU.

  • Develop relationships with Michigan high school administrators and teachers. Maintain constant communication with the high schools to increase College and LTU brand presence in those schools and encourage enrolling in LTU programs.

  • Coordinate all aspects related to bringing high school students to campus for outreach programs (e.g., communication, transportation, food, room reservations, activity planning, and execution, developing teaching and learning materials to share with teachers as a follow-up to sessions on campus, thank you letters, etc.).

  • Develop and offer hands-on high school outreach programs in biology, chemistry, and physics, as well as various appropriate engineering programs.

  • Travel to area high schools to promote the University and offer hands-on biology, chemistry, physics, and various engineering programs.

  • Offer programs and provide logistical support for Exploration Day, Campus Visit Day, and Health Sciences Day programs.

  • Assist with the development and delivery of summer camps and Marburger outreach efforts.

  • Meet with prospective students and offer tours of our STEM-related facilities.

  • Help to operate and maintain College teaching and research laboratory facilities in collaboration with the instructional support coordinators.

  • Other tasks as assigned by the College Dean.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Strong written and verbal communication skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google software products are essential. Experience using Canva or other graphic design software is highly desirable. The ideal candidate should be excited to work in a positive, dynamic environment and carry out duties independently with limited oversight.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

A master's degree in biology, chemistry, physics, or a related STEM discipline or a bachelor's degree with a minimum of five years of relevant experience is highly desirable. Experience working with K-12 high school teachers and students is also highly desirable.
