Reporting to the Science Librarian, the Science Library Assistant performs circulation duties and student supervision for the Science Library branch. Assists patrons (students, staff, and faculty, as well as the general public) with their library needs. Assists with daily library operations and provides public services for the library, including basic research help and using research databases. Provides service at the circulation desk; assists in the processing of Interlibrary Loan and Document & Delivery Services requests; maintains stacks and reserve materials; communicates regularly with colleagues in the Holy Cross Libraries; assists with liaison services to faculty, staff, and students in the Sciences; and engages with other projects and duties assigned by the Science Librarian and/or other library administrators.
Assist in the operation of all aspects of the Science Library, including opening and closing; circulation; general research support; processing of materials and requests.
Participate in managing the overall security of the area, liaising with Public Safety when necessary
Train, supervise, mentor, and communicate with student workers; coordinate with other librarians who supervise students to establish best practices and policy
Prepare annual issues of print journals for bindery
Maintain an inventory of office supplies and office equipment; communicate repair needs for printers, scanners, etc.
Maintain the daily function and triage for printers, scanners, and other office equipment; troubleshoot common problems and daily maintenance issues
Some evening or weekend hours may be required
Demonstrated excellent customer service ethic
Fluency with Google Suite for document and spreadsheet management
Experience in a library environment; or, supervisory experience in any field
Ability to take direction; high comfort level with suggesting improvements to workflow and procedures; ability to participate in strategic planning for the libraries
Ability to work some evening or weekend hours, if required
Experience in an academic library
Experience with library circulation software and hardware
Experience with managing student workers and/or staff

This position is full-time and comes with benefits as described here. It is 35 hour per week, 52 weeks per year.
