George Fox University's Department of Biological and Molecular Sciences is seeking a highly-motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Science Lab Coordinator.

About the Job:

The Science Lab Coordinator will play a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of our teaching and research laboratories, as well as ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations. In addition, the individual in this position will be expected to maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality regarding department business and promptly notify the Department Chair of any scheduled and unscheduled absences to ensure proper responsibility coverage. The Science Lab Coordinator will regularly meet with, work closely alongside, and report to the Department Chair.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing Anatomy, Biology, & Chemistry Stockroom Operations.

  • Supporting Teaching & Research Labs.

  • Providing immediate response to spills, injuries, or incidents in the lab.

  • Collaborating with the lab equipment specialist to coordinate instrument and equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement.

  • Contributing to short- and long-term planning regarding facility usage and design including equipment and instrument repair, replacement, and capital equipment requests.

  • Serving as EHS building monitor for disruptions and/or emergencies and assisting with communication and response coordination.

  • Regularly attending and participating in Department and Industrial Enterprise meetings.

  • Working with the Department Chair and budget administrator to prepare and track budgets.

  • Working with the EHS Officer to consult on matters of chemical hygiene, waste disposal, chemical ordering and storage, lab safety, equipment usage and maintenance.

  • Working with EHS Officer to ensure compliance with specific state and federal regulations regarding chemical hygiene and lab safety protocols.

  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with others; relating well to people from varied backgrounds and in different situations; showing understanding, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness.

  • Relating to people in an open, friendly, and professional manner. Presenting oneself in a professional manner to maintain image and credibility.

  • Fostering cooperation, collaboration, and communication to facilitate consensus and accomplish tasks.

  • Maintaining appropriate levels of confidentiality regarding department business.

  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.

  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.

  • Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.

We're looking for candidates who have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field.

  • General work processing skills (Word, Excel, etc.)

  • Demonstrated office and records management, as well as organizational and planning skills.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Familiarity and training with safe handling of hazardous materials.

  • Flexibility towards frequent and abrupt changes in work assignments, goals, and deadlines.

  • The ability to multitask and track several responsibilities throughout the day.

  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Job information:

  • Hours Per Week: 40 hours (1.0 FTE)

  • Primary Work Location: Newberg Campus

  • May require travel for training.

  • Working Conditions: Physical requirements are those of normal office and laboratory environments, and could include lifting more than 25 pounds and performing any activities such as balancing, bending/stooping, climbing stairs, crawling, crouching, climbing ladders, kneeling, repetitive motion or reaching above shoulder level.
