Job Title: Science Instructional Specialist
Reports to: Director of Science Pay Grade: AP 3 - 197 Days

Primary Purpose:
Support improvement efforts in designated subject area through activities such as collaborating in the development and articulation of a common vision of improvement and ensuring continuous renewal of curriculum, policies and methods
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
1.A valid Texas teacher certification
2.Strong knowledge of concepts and content in the designated subject area
3.Five years teaching experience in the designated subject area, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
1.Campus level leadership position preferred
2.Ability to work effectively with principals, teachers, students, and community
Experience
Experience in conducting staff development and/or mentoring teachers
Experience in developing curriculum activities and TEKS-based assessments
Experience in facilitating the planning and application of emerging technologies in the classroom
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Diagnose district, campus, and student achievement through state and local assessments
Develop and implement curricular improvements in the designated subject area
Promote the improvement of instruction through activities such as assisting teachers in designing learning experiences for students
Provide instructional leadership for the implementation of district curriculum
Provide model teaching at the campus level when appropriate
Provide professional development in conjunction with district needs
Provide instructional coaching as needed
Participate in campus classroom walkthroughs
Demonstrate leadership skills at the campus level
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment;
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 30 pounds)
Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; analyze data; implement policy and procedure; coordinate district functions. District-wide and statewide travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
