QUALIFICATIONS

  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary license in the specific subject area(s): Reading Specialist, All Levels

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; Master's Degree preferred.

  • SEI Endorsement

  • Strong district lens regarding EL, curriculum, and equity

  • Knowledge of current education legislation/regulations

  • Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and advocate for children in order to effectively problem solve

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and ability to work with all stakeholders

  • Experience in urban district/setting preferred

  • Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice

  • Ability to facilitate strong collaborative relationships between and among teachers and administrators to support the improvement of instructional practices in literacy

  • Ability to work cooperatively with a wide range of staff involved in literacy instruction and remediation

  • Ability to plan and present at building-based and district level meetings

  • Familiarity with current, research-based literacy programs and assessments

  • Familiarity with data analysis and interpretation

SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a resource to classroom teachers and principals on materials and methods for English Language Arts in the areas of instructional practices, curriculum, and differentiation.

  • Co-plan and co-teach lessons with classroom teachers consistent with system-wide initiatives.

  • Collaborate with the administration and teachers on the development and maintenance of a district-wide approach to reading and writing instruction.

  • Collaborate with the administration and teachers on the development and maintenance of district-wide common assessments.

  • Collaborate with the administration and teachers in the development and maintenance of a program to support grade level instructional teacher leaders in the area of literacy.

Support principals and teachers in the identification of students in need of RTI reading support.

  • Support principals and teachers during school-based data review and curriculum planning meetings.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instruction

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • As negotiated with Lynn School Committee and Lynn Teachers Union.

  • 180 days per year
