Title: School Van Driver
Reports to: School Logistics Manager
Department: Transportation
Location: Kayne Eras School
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Program Hours: 5:30 AM - 8:00 AM and/or 2:15 PM - 4:30 PM
Supervisory Responsibility: None
Position Summary
To transport students to and from school and other sites within designated route(s) and to ensure the safety of the student passengers while in a Kayne Eras school vehicle. Employees in this classification receive general supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This position is responsible for the safe operation of a school vehicle and for ensuring the safety of student passengers while meeting established bus schedules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Transport students & Kayne Eras staff in Kayne Eras School vans safely
Transport students & Kayne Eras staff on field trips to various locations
Drives a school transportation vehicle within a prescribe route(s) in accordance with time schedules; picking up and discharging students at designated stops
Understand KES Transportation guidelines
Understand responsibilities pertaining to Busology software
Have a basic understanding of special-needs kids and their possible behaviors
Have the ability to remain calm and focused in the case of distractions
Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition
Conduct safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily
Reports needed mechanical repairs when necessary
Be reliable and consistent
Other Duties
Comply with ECFs Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment.
Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.
Regular, reliable attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Ability to implement/perform First Aid/CPR/NCI
Qualifications
Education/Licenses/Certifications: High School Diploma
Experience: Have held a valid drivers license for at least three years.
Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:
Proficiency in using GPS devices.
Ability to manage time and work effectively.
Ability to follow directions.
Ability to deal appropriately with sensitive and confidential information.
Requirements
Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver's License; Class C
Possession of a California School Bus Driver's Certificate, Class B; preferred, but not required.
Possession of a safe driving record
Knowledge of the provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code as applied to the operation of vehicles used in the transport of school children.
Knowledge of basic first aid practices, procedures, and techniques
Knowledge of safe driving practices
Ability to read and write at a level necessary to successfully perform the required duties.
Ability to understand and carry out both oral and written instructions in an independent manner.
Ability to establish and maintain proper student conduct on school vehicle.
Ability to drive a school bus/vehicle safely and efficiently.
Ability to exercise good judgment and extreme caution while driving.
Ability to maintain valid certification as school bus driver according to state regulations, if applicable
Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to perform required duties safely and effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationship with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Pass a DOJ background investigation.
Provide evidence of a negative TB test initially and every three years thereafter.
Work Environment
This is a school environment for students (K12th grade) who have varying degrees of learning, behavioral, emotional, and developmental disabilities. Employee may encounter students who are in crisis, exhibiting emotional/psychological distress or behaving in an aggressive manner.
Administrative work will be performed in a separate office. However, incumbent will circulate in classrooms, outdoors, and other locations for meetings and special events. Environment may include frequent interruptions, loud noise, odors, varying indoor temperature, and drafts. Outdoor temperature and weather will vary.
