School Social Worker

Duties

The duties of the social worker will include:

• The school social worker shall provide consultation and in-service training to school personnel.

• The school social worker shall be responsible for providing the social-development study in a case study evaluation and for participating in the identification of those children who require social work intervention.

• The school social worker shall assist student directly toward adjustment to school.

• The school social worker shall be responsible for servicing as a liaison between the home and the school, and for providing parental education and counseling as appropriate in relation to the child's problem.

• The school social worker shall facilitate the effective utilization of existing community resources to meet the needs of school children.

• The school social worker shall keep informed of new developments in the field.

• The school social worker shall participate in case conferences when referred students are involved, or as requested.

• Help with R.T.I. process as principal directs

• Implement intervention strategies that support the teaching process

• Building rapport with parents in order to form a bridge between school and home regarding the evaluation and committee decision-making process to determine eligibility for special education services.

• Collaborate with teachers and offer strategies to enhance student learning.

• Intervene in crisis situations as requested by the school district administration

• Consult with parents and school personnel regarding ways to facilitate the learning and adjustment of students.

• Help teachers and administrators identify modifications for classroom instruction relevant to students needs such as adaptive, social/emotional and life skills

• Plan, implement and supervise state and district testing programs.

• Participate in the ongoing assessment of his/her performance and accepts and benefits from constructive criticism.

• Demonstrate effective office and time management. Completing all required paperwork in a timely manner.

• Demonstrate punctuality for meetings and keeps appointments.

• Demonstrate knowledge of Federal, State, and district policies and procedures.

• Keep informed through publications and workshops.

• Maintain confidentiality.

• The school social worker shall attend multi-disciplinary staff conferences.

• Supervise training of school social worker interns.

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License - endorsed school social worker
