What You'll Do

  • Provide individual and group counseling mandates to our scholars/families.

  • Help scholars cope with personal and psychological issues that affect their school performance, behavior, and socialization.

  • Provide information for and/or referrals to outside support services or agencies to help scholars deal with economic, emotional, or physical challenges.

  • Assess scholar independent functioning skills toward possible referrals to outpatient treatment/counseling/support options.

  • Assess possible abuse and neglect cases to appropriate emergency intervention organizations.

  • Assist teachers and administrators in dealing with behavioral or attitude issues by communicating with scholars to find the causes of their distress.

  • Develop and implement professional development training for educational staff and parents as requested.

Compensation

Salary range is $57,000-$80,000 commensurate with your experience. Democracy Prep employees are provided with a benefits package that includes medical, vision, and dental insurance, 403B matching, parental leave, tuition reimbursement, a smartphone, and a laptop.

The NYU Family Support Program is seeking a licensed Clinical Social Worker with training and experience working with families, individuals and couples to be part of a team to respond to the comprehensive needs of caregivers for individuals with Alzheimers disease and other dementias. Job Responsibilities: * Provides timely and effective psychosocial assessment and evaluations as required. Uses clinical knowledge of psychosocial dynamics and interviewing techniques to gather social history, define problems and develop a relevant treatment plan. * Documents all social work activities in a timely manner according to departmental protocols. Performs clinical duties in an independent manner, with appropriate use of supervision. * Provide family consultation to family members of people with dementia so that they can provide care while maintaining their own physical and emotional well- being. * Supervise and work with community health reps who will be connecting family members with resources in the community that can help them provide care for their relatives with dementia. * Be familiar with and provide evidence based multicomponent interventions like the NYU Caregiver Intervention, and referrals to other reimbursable interventions as warranted by the results of a comprehensive assessment. Training in the NYU Caregiver Intervention, which includes individual and family consultation and ongoing support on the telephone will be provided. * Provide education for family members of people with dementia about the effects of the symptoms and how best to respond to them. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Masters degree in social work, or its equivalent (e.g. a higher degree from a social work program that is registered by the NY State Education Department as qualifying for licensure), from a recognized college or university program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) NYS licensure as a LCSW or pending examination with application having been approved by the licensing board for the LCSW examination or a New York State Department-issued limited permit (for employees hired with an LCSW from another state with NYUS LCSW obtained during probationary period). Experience providing care consultation and family consultation for adults is required. Must be highly organized and compassionate and enjoy working in a team. Required Licenses: Lic Clinical Social Worker Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in a hospital or health-related organization preferred.
