School Safety Monitor

Vista Meadows Academy is currently hiring a School Safety Monitor to join our team!

This is responsible School Safety Monitor for maintaining safety and security at the Academy's facilities. This position is also responsible for observing, reporting and remedying unsafe or problem situations within Academy facilities and on Academy grounds, as well as deterring student loitering in the Academy and on Academy grounds. The incumbent is expected to respond to fire and burglar alarms and other emergencies, act to prevent theft and property damage and act as a security agent at all sport activities and other Academy-related functions.

Vista Meadows Academy is a 9-12 public school academy located on the beautiful campus of Vista Maria in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. The Academy was founded on the belief that all children can learn if provided a nurturing and stimulating environment where expectations are high and support is bountiful.

Serving a smaller student population in the Detroit area provides support for student achievement by offering after school programs, college readiness assessments, free credit recovery opportunities, extensive summer opportunities and a safe and stimulating learning environment. Responsibilities:

Physical Safety

? Monitor compliance requirements for fire drills; ensure the Academy facilities are in compliance.

? Monitor State of Michigan safety and emergency requirements for the Academy; ensure the facilities are in compliance.

? Maintain and update school safety and evacuation procedures.

? Administer first aid as needed.

? Monitor and regulate student behavior on Academy grounds, in cafeterias, restrooms and other open locations.

? Deter students from loitering in Academy and on Academy grounds.

? Provide escort services to ensure safety and physical well-being of persons at the Academy.

Security

? Maintain facility security at all Academy facilities including all parking lots.

? Receive and respond to all calls from alarm companies relative to all Academy properties.

? First contact for all break-ins or loss of property at Academy facilities.

? Investigate and report all facts relative to break-ins, loss of property or any security incidents or emergencies.

? Maintain security at all sporting activities and other Academy-related functions.

? Maintain security at all after school events.

Administrative

? Prepare incident reports on all safety and security incidents; forward all reports directly to the School Leader and Department Director.

? Conduct investigations on all thefts, break-ins and loss of property.

? Prepare reports relative to thefts, break-ins and loss of property.

? Maintain daily activity logs.

? School Leader will issue suspension upon Security Officer's request; confer with the Superintendent for possible additional suspension days or expulsion.

? Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

? All employees must successfully pass a criminal background check.

? All employees must follow the policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Education & Experience

? High school diploma required with two to four years of related experience preferred.

? Certificate of first aid and CPR training.

? Capable of responding appropriately to students.

? Ability to learn and interpret Academy policies and procedures to be enforced.

? Communicate tactfully and effectively.

? Valid Michigan driver's license.

? Occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

? Stand and walk frequently.

? Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year.

? Withstand a moderate noise level.
