10 Months (September-June)
Salary:
Salary determined by the GEHR Board of Education and commensurate with experience.
Job Goal:
The School Resource/Attendance Officer (SRAO) serves as a vital connection between law enforcement, school administration, teachers, parents, and students. With a focus on fostering positive relationships, the SRAO has the opportunity to become a role model for students, impacting various facets of their education. Acting as a liaison between the school and the community, the officer collaborates to ensure the safety, well-being, and educational success of all students.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.
College degree or coursework in human behavior, child development, or related field is preferred.
License/Certification:
Valid New Jersey Driver's License.
Must meet all state requirements to carry a firearm in schools.
Successful completion of required criminal history review background check and sexual misconduct/child abuse disclosure process.
Proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status.
Experience:
Knowledge of Child Welfare and compulsory education laws and regulations and minimum experience as determined by the board.
Understanding of the rules and regulations for school safety for the state and school in which he works.
Knowledge of police practices in investigation and analysis of evidence.
Knowledge on how to prevent fires or suppress them in the event of an outbreak.
Basic security and supervision skills.
Ability to react quickly and efficiently in the event of an emergency.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and work successfully with children and adults.
Experience working with students and adults from diverse backgrounds.
Not have been released or discharged under any other than honorable discharge from any of the armed forces or government agencies of the United States.
Not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of "no contest" to any felony charge or to any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substance.
Responsibilities:
Truancy, Residency, and Legal Matters
Investigates truancy and residency issues, conducting home visits and calls.
Informs parents of legal obligations regarding school attendance.
Manages court proceedings related to attendance problems.
Community Engagement and Partnerships
Cultivates partnerships with school administrators in multiple municipalities.
Acts as a liaison to local and county authorities.
Attends and participates in school functions, building relationships with staff, students, and parent groups.
School Safety and Emergency Planning
Assists in emergency crisis planning and addresses building security matters.
Coordinates monthly school security and fire drills.
Student Support Services and Training
Provides workshops and training sessions for school personnel.
Collaborates with guidance counselors and support staff to assist students and provide referrals.
Additional Responsibilities
Supports conflict resolution efforts with appropriate building administration.
Performs any other duties assigned related to the position.
