School Resource Officer

Education Required: ILEA Tier I Graduate- Certifications up to date

Previous Experience Required: Minimum of 5 years' experience in law enforcement practice.

General Description of Position Duties: We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to serve as a School Resource Officer (SRO) at one of our schools. The SRO will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors while providing a positive and supportive learning environment. Maintaining order and discipline in the school environment.

• Providing a visible presence to deter criminal activity

• Building positive relationships with students, staff, and the community

• Responding to emergencies and incidents in a timely and professional manner

• Investigating criminal activity and preparing case reports

• Participating in school and community events

• Providing safety and crime prevention education to students and staff

• Collaborating with school administration and local law enforcement agencies

• Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and communication skills.

• Have the courage to face danger and the ability to be assertive when necessary

• They must exercise sound judgment, often in high-stress situations

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

• Ability to effectively interact with people from diverse backgrounds, youth and adult.

• Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.

• Willingness to undergo ongoing training and professional development.

• Ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time and able to solve problems quickly

Physical Requirements:

• This position requires a high level of physical endurance

• Frequent standing, particularly for sustained periods of time

• Frequent walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one part of the building to another

• Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

• Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision correctable to 20/20.
