Position Overview

The School Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct school nursing services in an effort to promote prevention, medical management and academics.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides school nursing services to direct service school districts

  • Assesses and evaluates the health and developmental status of the student in order to make a nursing diagnosis and establish a priority for action

  • Interprets the health and developmental status of the student to school personnel, parents, and the student as appropriate

  • Serves as a health resource person in the health instruction curriculum and takes leadership with faculties in planning and implementing a health education programs.

  • Provides parent education related to student needs

  • Participation in the development of Health Plans and attend school conferences when applicable. Provide care, delegate and teach care to others under the established plan of care while following the direction of a physician, nursing supervisor, school designee and/or parent

  • Attend appropriate continuing education programs as per licensure requirements and participate in Aveanna in-servicing and training as offered

  • Exhibit behavior supporting and promoting student's rights and overall wellbeing

  • Follow Aveanna and school board policies and procedures that affect the health, safety, and wellbeing of students in the school health setting. Report any changes in the student's mental, physical, or environmental condition (including any incidents) to the physician, nursing supervisor, school designee and parent as applicable

  • Recognize and report signs of substance abuse, physical abuse or neglect

  • Provide a clean and safe environment within the school, including the safe use of equipment

  • Identify appropriate methods for storage of equipment, supplies, and medications.

  • Maintain and coordinate standards of nursing while managing a comprehensive school health program

  • Provide preventive and rehabilitative measures while assisting/providing nursing assessments and screenings in an effort to promote safety and health for all

  • Perform treatments and/or procedures with skill and competence

  • Maintain and follow physician order for any invasive procedure and/or skill

  • Administer medication as per MD order and/or parental consent

  • Provide individual teaching and training with student and/or others in an effort to encourage and promote student independence when applicable

  • Collaborate, coordinate and supervise services with others in order to promote academics and individualized student needs

  • Accurately document services provided in accordance with agency policies and procedures on the day the services are rendered

  • Submit nursing documentation, logs, reports and timesheets within a timely manner and per policy

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate or Baccalaureate School of Nursing

  • Current, unrestricted state license as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice

  • Current CPR certification

  • Current Basic Life Support certification

  • Demonstrated proficiency in clinical assessments, documentation and compliance with nursing care and policies and procedures

Additional state specific requirements:

  • Continuing Education as required by state

Preferences

  • Pediatrics experience preferred

  • Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids and infectious diseases

RNs in this role work autonomously alongside the hospital staff to assess, troubleshoot, and make sound decisions for the critically ill patients. If you haven't considered Nephrology nursing before, read on as we think that you should. Dialysis Experience is NOT required. What you can expect: Use your critical care thinking skills. Whether this is the first or a blip in their chronic treatment, our RNs are experts in educating our patients and families. You'll be able to leverage your nursing skills for patients who are often dealing with multiple co-morbidities and/or acute conditions which require unique treatment plans and the ability to leverage a broad range of nursing skills and knowledge. Not just hemodialysis. Acute RNs may deliver nephrology care across multiple renal therapies: peritoneal, continuous renal replacement and apheresis. Autonomy in a hospital setting. Deliver dialysis to patients at a particular hospital or group of hospitals and become an integral part of their team and ours. As a teammate in an acute setting you work on your own almost all of the time. Each day you assess, troubleshoot, and make sound decisions for critical patients. Our Hospital Services group performs 1.1M treatments annually. Dynamic environment. No two days are ever the same for an acute dialysis nurse. You'll work within a variety of settings (ICU, CCU, ER and more), and you'll be able to keep learning new nursing skills on top of dialysis. Schedule: Provide emergent, lifesaving care during on call shifts. Schedules vary by hospital system. For this role expect to know your weekly schedule in advance, but your daily schedule may change depending on patient needs. Must be in commutable distance based on on-call requirements.
