Under the direction of the Director of Student Services, in coordination with the Building Principals, serve as a psychologist to students in the schools to which he/she has been assigned. Evaluates needs of recommended students within the school and helps to plan and carry out programs to enable students to attain maximum achievement and adjustment by performing the following duties.
DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
Evaluates students in relation to learning needs
Conducts diagnostic studies to identify child's needs, limitations and potentials
^Observes children in classrooms and other settings as well as study school records, consult with parents and school personnel,
administer and interpret diagnostic findings, systematically collect data from multiple sources and use ecological factors as the
context for all assessment and intervention decisions
Uses assessment data to understand students' problems and recommend evidence-based instructional, social, and behavioral
health services
Develops hypotheses, aggregates and interprets data and makes recommendations
Writes and prepares detailed reports in a timely fashion as part of the special education team process
Attends and participates in special education team meetings, 504 meetings, manifestation determination meetings, and Eligibility
Determination Meetings
Participates in Student Success Team or Child Study meetings
Assists students, parents and staff in development of realistic academic and personal expectations
Develops individual and group problem-solving techniques
Supports development of instructional programming with staff to meet students' needs
Recommends curriculum alternatives and specific instructional strategies to staff and parents
Conducts behavioral assessments including Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs), recommends behavior management
techniques to staff and parents, and may monitor plans on a case by case basis
Counsels students and consults with parents and staff in development of appropriate behavior goals
Assists in planning special placement or other treatment programs
Assists the staff in utilization of recommended strategies
Plans, implements and evaluates staff development activities in the area of behavior management, testing, guidance and
teaching strategies
Participates in the development of school district programs
Provides individual and/or group counseling to specified students to achieve personal, social and emotional adjustment
Carries out research to aid in the introduction of programs in schools to meet current psychological, educational and sociological
needs of children
Serve as liaison for school referrals to community resources; maintains contact with outside agencies based upon identified needs of students
Performs risk assessments on students, as needed
Refers individual students to community agencies to secure medical, vocational, or social services for child or family
Develops and maintains digital resources for diagnostic evaluations and reporting
Maintains membership in state and national professional organizations
Provides professional development for faculty, staff, and families in areas of special education and mental health
Performs other duties as assigned
