POSITION TITLE: School Psychologist

DEPARTMENT: Special Education

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services & Building Principals

PAY SCHEDULE: As per REA Collective Bargaining Agreement and experience

EFFECTIVE: 2024-2025 School Year

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree - Limited Psychologist License or Psychologist License required; Doctoral Degree preferred.

  • Employment experience as a school psychologist in a public-school setting, preferred.

  • Must meet minimum requirements of Every Student Succeeds Highly Qualified and NCA (North Central Association) requirements for this position.

  • Knowledge of procedures for assessing achievement and intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning for educational purposes.

  • Demonstrated competence in consultation skills, family system intervention, crisis intervention, and the referral process.

  • Knowledge of intervention strategies that are age, gender, and ethically appropriate.

  • Demonstrated training and experience in individual and group counseling techniques as well as interpersonal and team dynamics.

  • Competence in crisis management.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts, interprets and implements student assessments that include record review, interview, observation, and standardized assessment.

  • Administers and interprets norm-referenced and curriculum based psychological assessment measures.

  • Knowledge of best practices in curriculum, instruction and assessment, and of applicable rules and laws that govern educational decisions.

  • Ability to use data to make educationally sound decisions.

  • Provide short-term and crisis, individual and group counseling for referred students or groups of students.

  • Ability to plan evidence-based interventions for individual and groups of students.

  • Provide consultation regarding student's psychological and behavioral issues.

  • Participates in interdisciplinary staffing's to determine the eligibility, appropriate planning, and re-evaluation for students who require special education services / programs.

  • Participates in team-based follow-up activities to review student progress, analyze data, and modify individual interventions.

  • Provide consultation to school personnel and parents regarding the psychological needs of students as they relate to the educational setting and process.

  • Assist school staff members with intervention strategies and techniques regarding discipline problems.

  • Assist buildings in establishing Positive Behavior and Intervention Support programming.

  • Utilize preventative strategies to remove social / emotional barriers to academic success.

  • Provide referral information to students and families regarding in-district and out-of-district resources.

  • Provide staff development activities for school personnel and parents.

  • Excellent time management, communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to interact positively with students, staff and parents.

  • Skilled in collaborating with other professionals.

  • Comply with district policies and procedures (i.e., Medicaid Billing, accident reporting, service reports, etc.).

  • Provide crisis intervention services to schools as necessary.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Position requires travel to multiple schools in District.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • The employee must be able to use and operate a variety of office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including the use of a computer keyboard.

  • The employee must use hands and arms to manipulate objects.

  • The employee will have extensive verbal communication with administrators, staff, students, parents, & guests to communicate, to receive, and exchange information.

  • The employee must use keyboards, tools, and other controls.

  • The employee must sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.

  • The employee must have normal vision and hearing with or without aid.

  • The employee must be able to move about the assigned work location during the day.

  • Work is performed primarily in a standard office and school environment with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.

  • At times, the employee may be directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.

  • The noise level in the work environment varies from soft to moderately loud.

  • The employee is required to interact with students, staff, parents/guardians, and with the public.
