The University of Chicago Charter School is a neighborhood charter school on the South Side of Chicago, operated by the University of Chicago Urban Education Institute. Comprised of four campuses spanning all grades from prekindergarten through high school, UChicago Charter is an academic superhighway empowering students to achieve excellence, cultivate critical thinking, and develop leadership skills to ensure success in college and life.

The School Psychologist is responsible for providing services to elementary and secondary students at the four University of Chicago Charter School campuses. The School Psychologist will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to serve students, staff, and families by providing diagnostic assessment, consultation, behavior intervention services, and participation in multi-tiered systems of support to Pre-K through 12th Grade students. This is a part-time position and ineligible for benefits.

Principal job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conducts required evaluations and re-evaluations within required time frames.

  • Assists with the identification, eligibility determination, and educational planning of diverse learners in collaboration with teachers and related service providers.

  • Provides consultation to parents, teachers, administrators and others on topics such as learning styles and behavior modification techniques.

  • Serves as a resource and consultant, conducting in-service programs as requested.

  • Utilizes strong collaboration and organizational skills in support of working with other educational professionals to develop teaching strategies and school programs.

  • Maintains student records, including special education reports, confidential records, records of services provided and behavioral data.

  • Provides consultation for development of, and participates in multi-tiered student support systems which address academic, social, emotional, and behavioral goals for student.

  • Demonstrates flexibility in working with various teams across the four campuses.


Must have an Illinois Professional Educator license with School Psychologist endorsement. Candidate should also have relevant work experience, excellent oral and written communication skills, and exposure to working in an urban elementary or secondary school environment.

Qualifications: DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Serve on student support teams (multi-tiered support service/response to intervention) and special education committees as a resource regarding psychological services at assigned schools as deemed necessary by school administration. * Select and administers age appropriate assessment methods in order to determine the needs of the student. * Consults with teachers and other school personnel to obtain information regarding the reasons for referrals. * Review student records to identify previous barriers and/or interventions. * Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary assessment team assigned to each school and works as a team member in making placement decisions, developing interventional plans and planning programs to meet the special needs of the children. * Communicates case findings and recommendations to teachers and other school personnel as needed. * Participates in eligibility committee meetings and contributes to the development of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP). * Conduct parent interviews through direct phone calls, interviews or home visits in order to acquire socio-developmental information as needed for special education referrals and assessments. * Analyze information gained through formal and informal assessments, direct observation, record reviews and interviews to determine environmental impacts and appropriate resource needs; integrate gained information into a written report and oral presentation. * Provide follow-up support to staff and students and re-evaluations services as necessary. * Attend and participate in Manifestation meetings. * Interview students and parents to discuss issues related to non-attendance and develop a plan of action. * Assist the school in following school board regulations for excessive absences and truancy; attend student support team meetings and court intervention. * Develop and implement professional development training for educational staff and parents, as requested/deemed necessary by the school administration. * Act as a member of the school crisis team and provide individual and/or group counseling in response to school-wide crises. * Participate in professional development activities aimed at current trends and best practices for the provision of comprehensive school social work services. * Serves as a liaison between the student, home, school, private counseling facilities and community resources such as social services, court services and family service agencies. * Maintain an ongoing liaison with community agencies and other resources to meet student needs; refers parents and student to agencies when appropriate. * Manage caseload, upcoming meetings, assessments and consultations in a timely manner. * Perform related work as required.
