VIEW JOBS 11/26/2022 12:00:00 AM 2023-02-24T00:00 <p>Position Purpose</p><p>The Psychologist performs professional level counseling, psychological testing, evaluation, and screening, and ensures sworn officers are mentally stable to perform work.</p><p>Essential Functions</p><p>1Counsels, advises, and provides professional support for sworn officers experiencing personal and job related psychological difficulties; counsels immediate family members and non sworn employees.</p><p>2 Conducts physiological testing and screening as a result of behavioral cause investigations and determines whether or not police officers are fit or unfit for duty.</p><p>3 Performs and conducts pre-employment diagnostic evaluations of uniformed sworn applicants to determines psychological stability; administers various psychological instruments and conducts extensive interviews with candidates.</p><p>4 Designs and develops psychological projects to ensure compliance with TCLEOSE rules and to ensure mental fitness of sworn officers; designs and implements sworn officer profile systems, and pre-employment psychological screening projects.</p><p>5 Conducts psychological evaluations of other employees who are required to carry a firearm such as City Marshal applicants, Fire Department arson investigators, and Dallas Security and Police Department special unit transfers.</p><p>6 Conducts predictive and concurrent validity studies to identify valid selection instruments.</p><p>7 Testifies in court as needed regarding psychological/emotional suitability of employees.</p><p>8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.</p><p>Minimum Qualifications</p><p>EDUCATION:</p><ul><li>Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) OR</li><li>Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) OR</li><li>Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from an accredited college or university</li></ul><p>EXPERIENCE:</p><ul><li>Three (3) years of post-doctoral experience in counseling and conducting evaluations.</li></ul><p>LICENSES:</p><ul><li><p>Valid driver's license with good driving record.</p></li><li><p>Must have or be able to obtain a license from the Texas State Board of Psychological Examiners within six (6) months from appointment.</p></li></ul><p>OTHER REQUIREMENTS:</p><ul><li><p>Must pass intensive background check</p></li><li><p>No felony convictions</p></li><li><p>No class A misdemeanor convictions</p></li><li><p>No class B misdemeanor convictions within last ten (10) years</p></li></ul><p>PREFERENCES:</p><ul><li><p>Currently Licensed in the State of Texas as a Psychologist</p></li><li><p>Experience working for a public safety or government agency</p></li><li><p>Ability to work an &quot;on call&quot; schedule and respond to emergency scenes as requested</p></li><li><p>Ability to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary wellness team</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated skill balancing a heavy counseling caseload and other duties</p></li><li><p>Experience conducting evaluations of applicants and/or general psychological evaluations and assessments.</p></li><li><p>Experience with empirically supported treatment options for a broad range of disorders</p></li><li><p>Experience providing mental health counseling to trauma exposed populations</p></li><li><p>Experience with couples and family counseling</p></li><li><p>Professional license and certifications in counseling</p></li><li><p>Ability to travel to more than one work location</p></li><li><p>Experience working with military PTSD</p></li></ul><p>Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the American and Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.</p><p>Provides basic counseling to individuals, couples, and families</p><p>Develops and maintains an understanding of fire service culture</p><p>Provides generalized feedback and policy recommendations to senior staff related to member psychological well-being and needs</p><p>Performs evaluations of cadet applicants</p><p>Teaches basic courses to cadets</p><p>Performs advanced evaluations and counseling to specialized units</p><p>Testifies in court as an expert witness</p><p>Debriefs critical incidents</p><p>Provides advanced training to fire personnel</p><p>Note to applicants:</p><p>The Psychologist provides mental health counseling to Dallas Fire-Rescue employees and their families; conducts evaluations of prospective uniformed employees (applicants); provides training to cadets and employees; consults with department leadership; and meets with first responders after traumatic incidents. The Psychologist is part of the Department's Wellness Program where other psychologists, medical professionals, fitness staff, workers' compensation liaisons, Peer Support representatives, and Chaplains are dedicated to providing wrap-around services for first responders. This position also provides behavioral health screens and brief interventions, as appropriate.</p><p>Psychologist offices will be co-located in an office building with a waiting room, a separate small kitchen, and a conference room. The office building provides amenities to tenants, including a coffee/snack shop, an exercise facility, and training/meeting rooms. Building security personnel are also on-site.</p><p>Travel:</p><p>If you are selected for this position and meet Driver Safety Standards in the City of Dallas Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.</p><p>Occasional out-of-town travel may be required for professional development. Attendance at Fire Service Safety conferences, specifically, health and wellness symposiums, will offer important opportunities for networking and building cultural competence.
