A successful school psychologist interprets a variety of psychological diagnostic tests and has comprehensive, insightful diagnostic skills.
Has knowledge of specific approaches and tools to help students, teachers and families better deal with all factors which interfere with the learning process; has experience working collaboratively to address student needs; writes IEP goals/benchmarks, progress reports and collaborates in IEP meetings. Has an appreciation for students from diverse family and socioeconomic situations; has an open-mind, sense of humor and the ability to calmly approach stressful situations.
Psychologist duties may include, but are not limited to: student assessment including administration of psychological evaluations of cognitive skills, attention, memory, social-emotional functioning and student observation; report writing and summarizing psychological, academic, and other testing associated with initial, 3-year evaluations as well as additional testing determined by the team.
Participation in special education Team meetings, school mental health, and/or counseling team. Consultation with school administration, related service providers, general educators, and special educators Counseling groups (social skills, friendship, etc.)
Additional Duties: Attend department meetings, participate with colleagues as a contributing member of the school community and contribute to school effectiveness, be actively involved in professional development.
