Falmouth Public Schools is looking for a dynamic and innovative half-time school psychologist (Fall 2024 opening).

The school psychologists are uniquely qualified members of the Falmouth School Team that support students' ability to learn and teachers' ability to teach. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. School psychologists partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community. The primary responsibility of this position will be to provide psychological testing and expertise supporting the special education referral process.

Responsibilities:

  • To provide school personnel with general knowledge regarding psychological services.

  • To assist in establishing and effecting procedural requirements for the assessment, eligibility, and placement of disabled students.

  • To assist in the preparation and revision of special education forms (IEPs).

  • To participate in legal appeals and hearings regarding students who have been evaluated psychologically or are in special education programs.

  • To order supplies and equipment needed for psychological services.

  • To administer individual psychodiagnostic techniques for the assessment of intelligence, personality, aptitude, achievement, and perception.

  • To evaluate and identify students who have learning, social, and/or emotional adjustment problems.

  • To consult with principals, teachers, parents, and other appropriate individuals to help increase the understanding of students and to help to provide an atmosphere conducive to psychological growth.

  • To interpret test results for parents and teachers.

  • To conduct in-service workshops or consultative conferences for school personnel on request or as needed.

  • To assist school screening committees and resource teachers in determining a need for formal evaluation.

  • To perform other duties as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director of Special Education

Falmouth Schools are located on a 100-acre district K-12 campus in Falmouth Maine, a coastal community bordering the city of Portland. Qualifications:

  • Hold a master's degree in school psychology from an accredited college or university.

  • Hold a certificate issued by the National School Psychology Certification Board.

  • Have a minimum of three years' experience in public education.

  • Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, school personnel, and community members.

  • The candidate must have an approved background check (run by the district).

Additional:

This is a half-time, school year position which reports to the Director of Special Education. Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Special Education per school board policy and administrative regulations for the evaluation of licensed personnel. Pay commensurate with education and experience (per teacher scale). Comprehensive and generous benefits package is pro-rated.
