SCHOOL NUTRITION DELIVERY TRUCK DRIVER

(This position is part-time, hourly & periodic employment)

To perform duties of receiving, storing, pulling, organizing & monitoring inventory; keeping storage facilities and

truck interior clean and orderly; following the central food storage HACCP plan; checking storage temperatures on

work days; loading and delivering foods, beverages & miscellaneous items to schools following a specified

schedule; and completing related paperwork.

QUALIFICATIONS

Valid North Carolina Driver's License

High school diploma or GED preferred

A level of education necessary for reading and following written instructions, counting inventory, completing forms

Experience with warehousing, deliveries, and inventory is a plus

Forklift training is required

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Reports on time to receive scheduled incoming delivery drops. Start & finish times on school delivery days are flexible within the parameters of reaching school kitchens between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

  • Availability when needed to receive, store, and deliver foods, beverages & miscellaneous items (This position is part-time, hourly & periodic employment.)

  • Communicates effectively with the School Nutrition Director, Bookkeeper, Managers, and North Carolina Department of Agriculture (NCDA) delivery drivers, freight delivery persons, central maintenance staff, and other persons in the workplace

  • Follows the standard delivery schedules to provide known product arrival dates in schools.

  • If variation from the standard delivery schedule is anticipated, the driver communicates immediately (via phone call, text, or E-mail) with the SN Director and/or Bookkeeper to discuss changes so that SN Managers can be updated on when to expect products

  • Provides feedback on delivery loads, schedules, and routes so that more efficient practices can be implemented and helpful adjustments can occur

  • Ability to perform heavy lifting up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to reach, push, pull, lift, finger, and grasp

  • Ability to walk and stand continually during work hours

  • Ability to work in the heat and freezer temperatures

  • Ability to drive a truck and forklift

  • Follows the principals of First In, First Out (FIFO) in storing and pulling products for delivery to facilitate utilization of oldest product dates first

  • Label foods on inventory with signs that indicate dates, such as pack date, use-by date, expiration dates, and other dates.

  • Alert the School Nutrition Director and/or Bookkeeper of products that need to be utilized before becoming out of date and/or appear to be set aside and not regularly ordered and delivered. Ask questions if they are not clear on the product identity labels.

  • Organizes, sweeps facilities, and removes trash from central storage facilities & truck

  • Stores incoming food in freezer, refrigerator, or dry storage promptly upon delivery to facilitate maintaining products at correct temperatures

  • Verifies items and quantities delivered into central storage & signs for the same. Notes any damaged and/or missing products. On the receiving copy, by each product, note lot numbers & if visible the pack and/or product expiration dates. Faxes a copy of receiving paperwork to the SN Office on the day items are received and relays the original through the school mail.

  • Completes and faxes a copy, scans & E-mails, or provides paper copies of the School Nutrition Delivery Truck Trip Report form to the SN office on the day of the delivery.

  • After school deliveries are made, relays signed delivery tickets immediately to the SN office via school mail or other methods.

  • Reports any pests observed in storage areas on the standard form provided. The form is posted in the dry storage area for the Integrated Pest Management tech to see. A call to the SN director is required on any pest problems observed.

  • Assists with the completion of reports such as recording storage facility temperatures, inventory, receiving paperwork, delivery tickets, and other forms as needed

  • Check with the central maintenance/shop secretary for messages from SN sent via fax, phone, or E-mail. Messages may be posted on the central maintenance bulletin board, so that area should be examined.

  • Reports any facility, equipment, or truck problems so that repairs can be made

  • At school delivery sites, assists in placing food, beverages, and miscellaneous items into the appropriate storage locations.

  • At the request of the School Nutrition Director and/or Bookkeeper periodically conducts a physical count of central inventory items and quantities.

Safeguards the inventories and equipment that belong to School Nutrition and Dare County Schools by

locking up facilities, monitoring temperatures, and reporting issues.

  • Attends training sessions, if requested to do so

  • Inventory Equipment used & unused

  • Preventative Maintenance of equipment and Kitchen

  • Small maintenance repairs: changing filters, replacing light bulbs, removing hood panels

  • Discard food as needed

  • Attends training, manager meetings, and other professional development as needed

  • Be prepared for USDA inspections

  • Proper Use and care of equipment

  • On call for Emergency, evenings and weekends

  • If time permits, cafeteria fill-in when a person is out

  • Performs other duties as assigned by Maintenance and School Nutrition
