Qualifications:
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina
Valid NC driver's license
Current CPR certification
National Certification in School Nursing required within three years of employment
Minimum one-three years pediatric preferred, public health or relevant nursing experience
RN (BSN preferred)
General knowledge and skill in the application of nursing theory, practices, principles and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs
Working knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to healthcare and of available resources and organizations
Supervises:
Essential Job Functions:
Provides illness, injury assessments, interventions and follow-up
Develops and implements individualized health and emergency action plans
Promotes health and wellness
Provides identification, assessment, planning, interviewing and evaluation of student health concerns
Maintains and documents student medical records
Cooperates with school personnel in identifying and meeting social, emotional and physical needs of students
Provides case management for students with complex needs
Ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions
Accurately document, interpret and explain records, and reports and medical instructions
Ability to plan, coordinate and supervise the work of others
Possess the ability to secure the cooperation of clients to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Support Services.
Physical and Cognitive Requirements:
The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the Temporary School Nurse job classification within Hoke County Schools. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
Must be able to:
Multitask and prioritize in a busy office setting
Prepare, read and comprehend a variety of job-related forms, reports, spreadsheets, maps, plans, records, documentation and correspondence in all languages required by the job
Understand and conform to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style
Speak to individuals or groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence
Collaborate with staff and drivers
Respond adequately to inquiries or complaints
Writing using standard convention in all languages required by the job
Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form
Communicate effectively and efficiently in all languages required by the job using whatever communication device or system is required (telephone, Braille)
Use/interpret job related terminology, mathematical formulas and functions effectively and efficiently

Perform under stress, deal with persons acting under stress and adapt when confronted with emergency situations
Be sensitive to cultural differences among individuals and groups of persons
Learn multiple computer software applications

Operate/use a variety of automated office machines and other jobs specific office equipment
