Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

Responsibilities:

● To be able to function as the school nurse assigned to the school. Coordinate with the District Nursing Supervisor to maintain compliance with District Healthcare Guidelines.

● Provides health assessments

● Obtains a health history

● Interprets the health status of students to parents and school personnel.

● Initiates referral to parents, school personnel or community health resources for intervention, remediation and follow through.

● Provides ongoing health counseling with students, parents, school personnel or health agencies.

● Utilizes existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students.

● Serves as a resource person to the school staff members in health instruction.

● Coordinates school and community health activities and serves as a liaison health professional between the home, school and community.

● Acts as a resource person in promoting health careers.

Ideal Candidate will demonstrate:

Knowledge of:

● Principles and practices underlying professional nursing.

● Principles and practices underlying the special field of school health.

● Current trends in nursing and of literature in the fields of school health.

● Organization and administration of other cooperating agencies.

● State and local laws relating to health and social issues.

Ability to:

● Participate cooperatively in a program of school health nursing.

● Exercise professional judgment in making decisions.

● Communicate appropriately, collaboratively, and effectively with students, parents, administrators, other school personnel, health care providers, and community agencies.

● Demonstrate a genuine interest in the student population and its health needs.

● Organize a health office and manage time.

● Be a self-starter or self-motivated.

● Use a computer and various software applications.

Qualifications Required:

● Qualified to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado and holds an unrestricted license

● Certified in CPR

● Minimum of one (1) year experience in public health nursing, community health nursing, school health nursing or pediatric nursing preferred.

● BLS Certification (Preferred)

● LPN License (Preferred)

● RN License (Preferred)

Essential Physical Requirements:

● Occasional lifting, five (5) to fifty (50) pounds

● Ability to stand/walk for ninety (90) minutes

● Ability to run short distances

● Frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, kneeling, crawling, squatting, reaching, and sitting

This is a temporary position: August to December

Schedule:

● After school

● Day shift

● Monday to Friday Work

Salary range: $375 per day

Location: In person

Responsibilities:

  • -- Assess the health of the school community and advocate for physical and emotional safety through collaboration with all stakeholders.
  • -- Identify students with health needs requiring modifications or accommodations in the school setting or during school sponsored events and activities.
  • -- Obtain and interpret student health data for special education assessments and 504 accommodation plans.
  • -- Participate as the health expert on the RTI, special education and 504 teams by mitigating health related obstacles to learning.
  • -- Develop a health care plan to meet students' individual health needs in the school setting.
  • -- Document health related services in designated Medicaid documentation system for the DCSD School Medicaid Reimbursement Program as assigned.
  • -- Provide direct health services for the student when appropriate.
  • -- Develop lesson plans and/or outlines for identified health education needs.
  • -- Design disease prevention and health promotion strategies for the students and school staff.
  • -- Provide ongoing consultation services to staff members.
  • -- Use evaluation of student outcomes to measure the effectiveness of intervention.
  • -- Ensure safe delegation of nursing interventions to unlicensed assistive personnel by adhering to the provisions of the Colorado Nurse Practice Act (CRS 12-38-101).
  • -- Assure student health information is protected in accordance with Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
