The Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School (O-School) is a Therapeutic Day School for children K-12 with a variety of diagnoses and needs including, but not limited to, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, Mood Disorders and other mental health needs that have impacted a child's ability to attend and fully participate within an academic setting. The Day School can enroll up to 125 students and also operates a Summer Camp and Diagnostic Center. The School is accredited through the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and adheres to all health and safety requirements and codes of practice. Additionally, the School adheres to the Illinois Mental Health Confidentiality Act (IMHDDCA) and follows guidelines of best practice as outlined by ISBE, AdvancEd and other accrediting agencies.
Summary and Essential Functions:
Many students have experienced psychiatric hospitalizations and some students exhibit mild to moderate illness related to ongoing conditions such as asthma and diabetes. Numerous students take prescription medication and at times require attention for injuries, illnesses, colds and other common symptoms. The School employs a Medical Director who monitors ongoing health conditions and a Full-Time Nurse. The Medical Director is on-site once monthly, and a Nurse is available throughout all hours of school operations and programming, including Camp and After School Programming. The School's Consulting Psychiatrist is on-site once every other week.

Qualifications:
Registered Nurse (RN) with minimum of five years of experience working directly with children and their families required. ISBE professional educator licensure (PEL) with an endorsement in school nursing required, or evidence that PEL is in process, e.g., proof of enrollment, copy of deficiency notice from ISBE. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and other Electronic Medical Records and Platforms required. Cultural Awareness and Sensitivity required.
Essential Skills:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to strength perspective by empowering students and their families. Must be able to demonstrate flexibility and a desire to work in a highly demanding setting on behalf of students and their families. Attention to detail, the ability to follow written and oral instructions, multi-task, and maintain confidentiality are essential skills.
Physical Demands:
The capacity to sit in an office setting for extended periods of time, access computers. Must complete the full Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training program and achieve and maintain certification.
Schedule and Pay:
The Part-Time Nurse will work 20-24 hours per week. Due to the nature of this position, flexibility is expected based on the school calendar and the needs of the program. The Part-Time Nurse will earn $36.00 - $40.00 per hour.
