School Nurse - Health Aid

Education Required: Medical Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician Certification

Previous Experience Required: Five years medical experience and experience with children preferred.

Schedule: The School Nurse Health Aid works 185 days per year. Daily work schedule follows the student schedule, except when emergencies occur. 7.5 hours per day starting at 7:15 or 7:30.

General Description of Position Duties: The purpose of this role is to support the overall health and wellbeing of staff, students and visitors within a school. This includes record keeping, dispensing medication, managing acute and chronic health concerns and conditions and teaching good health practices.

Knowledge and/or Essential Skills: • Skills in administering to the sick • Management of chronic illnesses • Basic knowledge of diabetes, seizures, g tubes and asthma • Attention to detail • Organized • Timely • Professional • Good communication skills

Specific Duties and Tasks: • Health management • Immunizations • Emergency preparedness medication training • Ordering/stocking and organizing clinic supplies • Signing in and dispensing medications • Vision & Hearing screenings • Managing food allergies • Communicating to different areas regarding student issues • Teaching health classes when appropriate • OSHA reporting • Injury reporting for staff, student and visitor • Communicating with parents • State Health reporting • Write Individualized Health Plans • Delegate and Train

Special Skills, Training or Aptitudes Required or Desired: Must have a good work ethic, be a self-starter, team oriented, have good customer relations skills, and enjoy working around children.

Physical and Mental Efforts: • This position requires a high level of physical and mental endurance. • Sitting in an office/classroom environment, performing tasks on a computer or other technical devices. • Frequent standing, particularly for sustained periods of time. • Frequent walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one part of the building to another. • Constantly talking, expressing, or exchanging ideas to colleagues and/or students accurately, loudly, or quickly. • Ability to hear and listen to detailed information through oral communication. • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
