Comments and Other Information

This position requires knowledge of current nursing practices, procedures, as well as knowledge pertaining to the rules and regulations regarding nursing services provided for students in a special education program (students age 0 to 23 years). The School Nurse provides nursing services to eligible students and assesses students who may have health or serious physical related problems; provides training to parents and educators in order to deal effectively with health-related issues; serves as a liaison between families, the school and medical practitioners to ensure continuity of medical care and services to students. When appropriate, the School Nurse works collaboratively with the IEP team to determine eligibility for special education and mode and intensity of services.
