Qualifications:
Current North Carolina Practical Nurse License without restrictions
Current North Carolina CNA License or Current Medial Assistant License
Current CPR certification and First-Aid certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross preferred
National Certification in School Nursing required within three years of employment
Must hold valid North Carolina driver's license
Minimum of one year experience in hospital or community health setting
Experience with the public preferred
Ability to exhibit a professional, positive attitude and work ethic
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals during a time of crisis and distress
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to speak, read and write English
Critical thinking and sound judgment required

Essential Job Functions:
Provides school nursing services in assigned school
Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Lead Nurse may assign
The LPN has a dependent role and provides student/faculty care only at the direction or communication of the School Nurse and the Lead Nurse Supervisor
Assist with health screenings that include vision, hearing, and communicable diseases
Assist with student immunization records according to state immunization laws
Assist with the coordination of school based testing, immunization and vaccination clinics
Enter health data information into the electronic surveillance system
Assist the school nurse with COVID-19 responsibilities and educate the school community and parents about the HCS School testing Programs
Call contacts of newly-diagnosed patients
Communicate with contacts in a professional and empathetic manner
Communicate to the School Nurse and the Lead nurse Supervisor immediately regarding all health related emergency situations , medication or procedure errors and unusual occurrences
Communicate with the assigned School Nurse and Lead Nurse to resolve situations beyond expertise of the licensed practical nurse
Collect and record information on symptoms into Isolation Tracking Log
Provide contacts with approved information on state/local quarantine procedures, and if appropriate, refer them to testing according to protocol StrongSchoolsNC Toolkit
Review the Health assessment record of all students yearly and communicate the need for health plan to the assigned school nurse and the Lead Nurse
Administer medications according to the North Carolina Board of Nursing medication curriculum
Maintain health records according to North Carolina State Department of Education recommendations
Administer invasive procedures according to physician written orders with parent permission within the LPN scope of practice and the supervision of the assigned School Nurse
Perform student health care and lead nurse supervisor in securing medical records needed for special education placement and/or 504 services
Provide AED Maintenance and monitoring
Maintain confidentiality within legal, regulatory, and ethical parameters of health and education within the LPN scope of practice
Attend required nurse professional development and training
Exhibit interpersonal skills needed to work as an effective team member
Collaborate with students, families, school staff, community and other providers in a professional manner
Must maintain nursing continuing education requirements for LPN license renewal
