School Health Aide/Instructional Paraprofessional

Location: West Godwin Elementary

Starting pay: $18.58+ based on experience

JOB GOAL - SCHOOL HEALTH AIDE:

To provide direct care and support to student(s) identified as having complex health needs within the school setting under the direction of the district nurse and health services program.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Health/Medical field experience preferred

  • Current CPR/AED/First-Aid Certification or willingness to become certified within 60 days of hire

  • Comply with all district policies and procedures

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to work independently with a high level of responsibility and organization

  • Analytical and strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to maintain the strictest level of confidentiality.

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Perform and manage the medical/health needs directly to student(s) according to their Individualized Health Care Plan.

  • Works collaboratively with district nurse, families, and other educational staff concerning student's health needs.

  • Consult and communicate with district nurse in determining appropriate care for students.

  • Participate in regular Health Care Plan team reviews.

  • Perform other duties within the educational setting as assigned by the school nurse and building administrator

  • Participates in training sessions to update necessary skills. Training includes, but not limited to: bloodborne pathogens, medication administration, CPR/First Aid.

  • Provide effective and clear communication

  • Maintain clear and accurate documentation

  • Maintains and protects confidentiality and privacy following HIPAA and FERPA protocols.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the building administrator.

JOB GOAL - INSTRUCTIONAL PARAPROFESSIONAL:

To provide support and assistance to students in an educational setting, work closely with students to reinforce classroom instruction, and behavioral expectations, and/or providing individualized attention to students who may require additional support.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college. OR
  • Paraprofessional Praxis Assessment Test

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Discusses assigned teaching area with classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.

  • Review lesson plans in assigned area as requested by classroom teacher.

  • Prepares and develops various teaching aids.

  • Presents subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of best practices as directed by the classroom teacher.

  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.

  • Periodic progress monitoring.

  • Responsible for own record keeping.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Proficient in the use of computers/technology in the teaching setting.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the building administrator.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust/focus.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.

Mental Functions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing in the English language, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, and compile and negotiate.
