The School Food Services Assistant is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the school nutrition program and managing the social media for the Food Service Department. This role involves assisting with the activities of cafeteria staff, ensuring compliance with nutrition guidelines and regulations, maintaining food safety standards, and promoting healthy eating habits among students. The School Food Services Assistant plays a crucial role in providing nutritious meals to students and ensuring the smooth functioning of the school's food service operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of the school nutrition program, including menu planning, food procurement, preparation, substitute staff procurement and service.

  • Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to nutrition and food safety.

  • Oversee the Food Service department social media publicity and promotion efforts, ensuring that the district has an appropriate presence on the most current social media platforms.

  • Coordinate, monitor and manage content on District and school websites, while working with the district's IT department and social media platforms.

  • Utilize and manage social media for the food service department.

  • Assist with the training and supervisory tasks to ensure implementation of standard operating procedures, strict adherence to food safety.

  • Assist and oversee training of all new hires, as well as provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance staff knowledge and skills in nutrition, food safety, and customer service.

  • Assist with ensuring the completion of mandatory training and food safety certifications.

  • Assist with scheduling and ensuring adequate coverage during meal periods as needed. (does Patty help with staffing)

  • Assist with implementing menus that meet the nutritional requirements set by federal and state regulations, while considering student preferences and dietary restrictions.

  • Collaborate with the School Food Services Administrator and other stakeholders to create well-balanced and appealing menus.

  • Assist with monitoring food quality, portion sizes, and presentation to ensure high standards are maintained.

  • Post approved menus, communications, updates, and social media.

  • Assist with educating students, staff, and parents on the importance of healthy eating habits and promote nutrition education initiatives.

  • Assist with ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and standards, including proper storage, handling, and preparation of food.

  • Assist with conducting regular inspections of the kitchen and cafeteria facilities to maintain cleanliness and sanitation.

  • Assist with implementing and enforcing health and safety protocols, including allergen management and proper labeling of food items.

  • Other duties as assigned by the School Food Service Administrator

Work Year: This position works 200 days per academic year (180 school days plus 20 non-school days)
