JOB TITLE: School District Nurse
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for providing healthcare information, referrals and direct first aid to District students. The school nurse is responsible for promoting good health and a healthy environment to students, families, community members and District staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Oregon license to practice as a registered nurse.
Experience with public health/child health nursing preferred.
Valid driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Spanish language skills.
SUMMARY OF PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Utilizes clinical knowledge to guide nursing services in the education setting.
Uses the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation when delivering nursing services in the school setting.
Assesses the needs of students with special health needs and presents findings and recommendations at team meetings.
Collaborating with and overseeing the district Health Assistant.
Monitors ongoing health status of students with special health needs.
Makes medical, dental, and mental health referrals, as indicated.
Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
Acts as a resource for school staff regarding health education and health education materials.
Organizes first aid classes and immunization clinics for District staff.
Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff and students.
Complies with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
Attends work regularly and is punctual.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Works a 204 day calendar, modeled after the school year, at 1.0 FTE. The school nurse is on an individual contract, with a 23-24 annual salary range of $63,600-$81,100 with excellent benefits including Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance and Oregon state retirement. Paid time off includes one sick day per month worked and three personal days, pro-rated per school year.
