The Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO) is seeking aSchool Crossing Guard Supervisor.This position is located at various locations throughout the county, and hasresponsible supervisory work in directing the School Crossing Guards for the Sheriff's Office.

Insures that all school crossings are covered by School Crossing Guards at proper times.
Prepares School Crossing Guards' schedule and in the event of absence or illness, reschedules personnel so that school crossings will be properly staffed, or will work the crossing themselves.
Maintains record of all hours worked by School Crossing Guards and approves time slips. Approves leave for School Crossing Guards.
Maintains contact with schools, the County School Board, area police departments, and other public and private organizations to communicate to them any schedule changes due to unusual or emergency conditions, or routine school schedule adjustments.
Trains and supervises all assigned School Crossing Guards. Interviews School Crossing Guard applicants and makes recommendation for hiring.
Inspects school crossing areas for crossing hazards such as broken curbs and sidewalks, potholes, and any other potential hazards.
Writes accident reports for injuries to School Crossing Guards.
Assists with clerical duties.
Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
Responds to emergency situations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED and two (2) years of experience as a School Crossing Guard. Must have a working personal telephone (cell phone or land line). A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
Must possess and maintaina valid Florida driver's license.
Having met the minimum requirements, the preferred candidate will have experience handling clerical functions like scheduling and supervising employees of different age groups.
Experience working with any school system is a plus!
NOTE: A pre-employment skills test may be required.

Knowledge of traffic laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to school crossings.
Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of a large unit.
Ability to deal with the general public in adverse situations.
Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with area schools and cities.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to analyze school crossing problems and make appropriate recommendations.
Ability to maintain records, reference files, and assemble and organize data.
Ability to work under stressful situations.
Ability to interact effectively with others.
Mustbe able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.
Physical Demands: Light work. Ability to see, hear, talk, walk, reach; finger dexterity. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Environmental Demands:Outside work. Ability to tolerate inclement weather including rain, cold, heat, humidity, fog, sleet. Ability to tolerate fumes, noise and vibration.
Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend technical procedures and instructions; memos, letters, evaluations, summaries. Ability to write compound sentences relaying information, data, and details in evaluations, letters, reports, summaries, and memos. Ability to speak clearly and concisely to layman. Ability to perform general mathematical functions.
