Reports To: Executive Director of Student Services

Terms of Employment: Part-Time, Interim Position

Nature of Work (Purpose):

This position will serve in the capacity of a School Counselor on a part-time, interim basis (29.5 hours per week). As a School Counselor, this position will work collaboratively with school staff to support the academic, career, personal/social development of all students.

Qualifications and Licensure

  • Master's degree in School Counseling, or enrollment in an accredited school counselor preparation program and completion of a minimum of 24 graduate semester hours of that program; or, Completion of a master's degree in addiction; career; clinical mental health; clinical rehabilitation; college counseling and student affairs; marriage, couple, and family counseling; or rehabilitation counseling from a regionally accredited college or university and enrollment in an accredited school counselor preparation program to complete additional master's level courses needed to add school counseling specialization.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to students' well-being.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and high ethical standards.

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and technology skills.

  • Knowledge of laws, policies, regulations, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Individual Counseling: Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to students to address personal, academic, and social concerns. Offer guidance, support, and strategies for personal growth and development.

  • Group Counseling: Organize and lead group counseling sessions to address common issues affecting students, such as peer relationships, study skills, and stress management.

  • Crisis Intervention: Respond to and provide immediate support for students in crisis, including those dealing with emotional distress, trauma, or challenging life events.

  • Academic Advising: Collaborate with students to create and maintain educational plans, set goals, and make informed decisions.

  • Parent and Teacher Collaboration: Communicate with parents, teachers, and administrators to ensure a holistic approach to student support and address any concerns or issues that may impact student well-being.

  • Maintain Records: Keep accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and student progress. Comply with all relevant laws and regulations regarding student records.

  • Follow policies, procedures, and rules per district policies and state and federal laws.

  • Performs any other duties or tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Physical Requirements (if applicable)

  • Requires walking, standing, and sitting throughout the day.

  • At times requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 10 pounds.
