The Black Horse PIke Regional School District has an opening for a School Counselor Long Term Substitute from December 1, 2024 through June 23, 2025.

QUALIFICATIONS: Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey School Counselor Certificate or Student Personnel Services Certificate

OBJECTIVE: Facilitate a comprehensive counseling program which includes academic, career and personal/social domains.

REPORTS TO: Director of School Counseling Services and Building Principal.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Comprehensive school counselor will be responsible for a caseload of students as assigned. They work cohesively with the student, parents, teachers, school administrators and other school support staff to ensure success for each student.

  • The school counselor collaboratively plans, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate school counseling program.

  • Collaborates to facilitate a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate school counseling program that meets the needs of all students.

  • Reviews the school counseling program and goals with the school administrator each school year to maintain a consistent mission and focus.

  • Communicates the goals of the school counseling program with students, parents/guardians, administrators and other stakeholders through publications such as newsletters, calendars, web pages and social media outlets.

  • Maintains current and appropriate resources for education stakeholders including career, college and scholarship information, parent resources, teacher resources and community referral lists.

  • Uses a variety of data to develop and evaluate activities, lessons and action plans based on student needs.

  • Conducts an annual assessment to determine program implementation and to modify services as needed.

  • Monitors and assesses student academic progress, attendance, development and safety to inform and improve the school counseling program.

  • Assists teachers in developing and delivering lessons regarding issues of social and emotional learning, career, college and academic planning

  • Conducts classroom school counseling lessons or small group activities as assigned.

  • The school counselor uses the majority of the time to provide direct services that promote optimal student development.

  • Develops trusting, caring relationships with students that promote their personal/social, career and academic development.

  • Provides individual counseling and crisis intervention using evidence-based practices.

  • Conducts activities and assist students in developing educational goals and career plans that are linked to the student's academic planning through the course selection process.

  • Delivers the counseling curriculum through structured activities and lessons to provide all students with the knowledge, attitudes and skills appropriate for their developmental level.

  • Communicates and consults with parents/guardian, teachers, CST, administrators and community organizations to identify resources and make referrals.

  • Monitors and tracks students' academic progress and develops a plan with the student that utilizes resources within the school setting to address academic shortcomings when necessary.

  • Meets with students and parents as needed to discuss academic and career/college planning.

  • Maintains notes and logs of meetings with individual students to ensure that each student's needs are being addressed.

  • The school counselor advocates for a safe, supportive, inclusive school where all students can learn.

  • Collaborates with stakeholders to foster a positive school climate that respects and values the diversity of all members of the school community.

  • Provides culturally responsive school counseling activities that promotes student learning and achievement.

  • Advocates for policy and programs that promote equity, access, and inclusion of all students regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, country of origin, ethnicity, language, ability or socioeconomic status.

  • Promotes prevention and activities that address student need.

  • The school counselor provides supports that market and promote the role of the school counselor.

  • Informs staff of services provided by the school counselor and how to access those services.

  • Assists teachers, parents/guardians and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data.

  • Participates in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills by attending professional conferences, workshops, seminars relevant to school counseling.

  • Adheres to laws, policies, procedures and ethical standards of the school and the school counseling profession.
