The mission of Gabriella Charter Schools is to join academic rigor with the creativity of dance to engage the hearts and minds of young people in underserved communities, empowering them to excel both inside and outside the classroom. Gabriella Charter Schools is composed of two high-performing, dance-themed charter schools in the Los Angeles community.
GCS 1 serves grades TK-8 and is located in the community of Echo Park. GCS 2 serves grades TK-8 and is located in the community of Historic South Central. GCS has garnered accolades, including the State's Distinguished School Award and Exemplary Arts Program Award, the California Honor Roll, California Gold Ribbon Award, the Title 1 Achievement Award, California Pivotal Practice Award, the California Charter School of the Year award, and a ranking by USC as one of the best charter schools in California.
GCS has also been recognized for its success in serving students with disabilities and under-resourced families. In 2020, Innovate Public Schools, in partnership with USC, ranked GCS1 as a top public middle school for low-income Latinx students in English and math and ranked GCS1 and GCS2 as top public elementary schools for low-income Latinx students in English and math.
The School Counselor (Site Specific) works with the Assistant Principal, School Psychologist, Principal, and other school leaders to identify and support the mental health of students and their families at Gabriella Charter Schools. The School Counselor (Site Specific) provides parent workshops, attendance monitoring and support, classroom behavioral consultation, emotional regulation, and crisis intervention to students in emotional and/or social distress, which has increased given the COVID-19 pandemic.
